Hungary vs Portugal prediction: The visitors to come out on top
Key Stats
- Portugal have now won 11 qualifying matches in a row under Roberto Martinez.
- Hungary have won just one of their last seven matches.
- Cristiano Ronaldo has scored seven goals in his last seven appearances for Portugal.
Correct score prediction: Hungary 0-2 Portugal
Portugal are flying at the moment, and their UEFA Nations League triumph has seemingly only made them more confident and assured in what they are doing. While this looks like a banana skin on paper, Hungary's form is pretty sketchy and Portugal have too much experience in their ranks.
Pre-game odds and win probability: The hosts start as the underdogs
- HOME: 9/2 (5.50) – 18.2%
- DRAW: 7/2 (4.50) – 22.2%

Hungary preview: One change
Hungary are only expected to make one change to the team that started against Ireland at the weekend. Roland Sallai was sent off at the beginning of the second half and will therefore miss this one through suspension. Sallai's sending off was a particularly frustrating one as Hungary were cruising towards a win at the point he saw red.
Predicted lineup: Dibusz (GK), Nego, Orban, Szalai, Kerkez, Styles, Bolla, A.Toth, Szoboszlai, B.Toth, Vargas
Last five matches
- Ireland 2-2 Hungary
- Azerbaijan 1-2 Hungary
- Hungary 0-2 Sweden
- Hungary 0-3 Sweden
- Sweden 3-1 Hungary
Portugal preview: Bernardo to come back in?
Roberto Martinez could recall Bernardo Silva to the starting XI on Tuesday night after the Man City captain was dropped for Pedro Neto against Armenia. One man who definitely won't be rotated is Cristiano Ronaldo after his brace at the weekend. The 40-year-old is now just 58 goals away from hitting the 1,000-goal marker for his career.
Predicted lineup: Costa (GK), Cancelo, Dias, Inacio, Mendes, Neves, Vitinha, Fernandes, Silva, Ronaldo, Felix
Last five matches
- Armenia 0-5 Portugal
- Portugal 2-2 Spain
- Germany 1-2 Portugal
- Portugal 3-2 Denmark
- Denmark 1-0 Portugal
Player to watch: Joao Felix

Much has been made about Joao Felix's decision to leave European football for Al Nassr, but the former Atletico Madrid man was electric in Portugal's win over Armenia at the weekend. That performance should ensure he keeps his place in the starting XI for this one. His move to Al Nassr could end up having benefits for the national team, as it will allow his relationship and understanding with Ronaldo to grow.
