Sunderland vs Hull prediction – Betting tips & odds
Hot Tip – Sunderland to win
- Sunderland are only outside of the playoff spots on goals difference, as the club have won one more game than Hull's tally of 11
- Hull were beaten by the out-of-form Birmingham City in the FA Cup in midweek and lost at home to Norwich last weekend
We have also decided to back Sunderland because of Hull’s poor run of form in 2024. The Tigers started this year with a 3-1 loss to the relegation-sitting Sheffield Wednesday back on New Year's Day before a draw with Birmingham in the FA Cup, only to eventually lose the replay this past Tuesday. A loss to Norwich has now put them on a four-game winless run.

Despite being the heavy favourites, Sunderland have kept only one clean sheet since last playing and beating Hull back on Boxing Day. This has seen them even let in a goal to last-placed Rotherham United, lose 3-0 to rivals Newcastle United, and suffer a 2-1 defeat away to Ipswich Town.
Sunderland have now let in 30 goals from 27 matches, while that Boxing Day clash between these two sides saw Hull have seven shots on target and they were unfortunate not to get at least a point, given Sunderland's late winner.

Niall Huggins is out for the season for Sunderland, while Bradley Dack, Dennis Cirkin and Corry Evans are still not ready to return and likely come back in February.
Predicted Lineup: Patterson (GK), Alese, Ballard, O'Nien, Hume, Clarke, Neil, Ekwah, Ba, Bellingham Pritchard
Hull City
Hull's struggles in 2024 has been matched by their terrible luck with injuries. Ryan Allsop is nearing a return, however, and could do so here. On the other hand, Siniki, Jaden Philogene, Ruben Vinagre and Liam Delap are all still sidelined. Seri and Noss Traore are also at the Africa Cup of Nations for at least two more weeks.
Predicted Lineup: Ingram (GK), Coyle, Jones, Greaves, Jacob, Morton, Slater, Tufan, Carvalho, Twine, Connolly

Player to Watch: Jack Clarke
Although a lot of attention should go on Jobe Bellingham heading into this one, Jack Clarke remains the main man for Sunderland this season.
Clarke scored one again last weekend in a 2-1 loss to Ipswich, while the 23-year-old also managed to get the winning goal away to Hull back in late December. In total, Clarke now has 13 goals in all competitions for the Black Cats and he is fourth in the top scorer list in the Championship, putting him just three goals behind top spot.
