The North Africans made light work of New Zealand on Wednesday to record their first victory of 2026, while their Southern counterparts are in action for the first time since a 2-2 draw against Honduras in March.

Haiti were eliminated in the second round of 2022 World Cup qualifiers, and after opening this campaign’s final stage with consecutive draws against Honduras and Costa Rica, their long wait for a return to the global stage looked set to continue.

However, Sebastien Migne’s side rallied to claim three wins from their final four matches, including a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua in November, edging out Honduras to secure a World Cup berth.

Now returning to football’s biggest stage for the first time since 1974, Les Grenadiers will be determined to produce a stronger showing than their last appearance, when they lost all three group games and conceded 14 goals.

Since clinching their World Cup spot, Haiti have focused on preparation, playing friendlies against Tunisia, Iceland, and most recently New Zealand since the turn of the year.

After failing to win either of their opening two warm-up matches, Haiti returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 demolition of New Zealand, as Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor made his full debut.

Following a disappointing qualifying campaign—managing just 12 points from 18 matches—Peru have missed out on a second consecutive World Cup since their 2018 appearance in Russia.

Mano Menezes took charge earlier this year, and after a 2-1 defeat to Senegal in his opening match, the 63-year-old looked set for a first win against Honduras—leading 2-1 before Darlin Mencia’s late equaliser.

With only six players in the current squad boasting 10 caps or more, La Blanquirroja have turned to several relatively inexperienced players in an effort to arrest their slump in form.

Any response will need to come quickly, as Peru face arguably their toughest test in years against reigning European champions Spain just three days after Saturday’s encounter.

Whispers predicts: Haiti 1-1 Peru

Betting odds for Haiti vs Peru have yet to be released, but here are our three best early selections:

Peru sit 30 places higher in the FIFA rankings and are unbeaten in the previous two meetings, making them favourites on paper. However, their recent poor form suggests a draw could be the most likely outcome.

Only one of Haiti’s last five matches has produced more than two goals, so under 2.5 goals looks a strong selection.

Wilson Isidor has scored or assisted in both of his international appearances for Haiti so far, and there is every chance he extends that run.
