Go Ahead Eagles vs Ajax predictions: A fair few goals

Key stats

  • At least four goals were scored in five of Go Ahead Eagles’ last seven matches.
  • Both teams were on the scoresheet in six of Ajax's last eight games.
  • Ajax are unbeaten in their last four encounters with Go Ahead Eagles.

Correct score prediction: Go Ahead Eagles 1-3 Ajax

Go Ahead Eagles are without a win in four consecutive clashes between these teams and have won only one of Ajax's last eight trips to this stadium (D2, L5). They are also in low spirits after failing to win any of their last three games, including the Johan Cruijff Shield.

On the other hand, Ajax are coming off a 2-0 victory over Telstar and have a 4-1-1 win-draw-loss record in their last six matches across all competitions. They should be able to defeat an out-of-form Go Ahead Eagles side.

  • DRAW: 16/5 (4.20) – 23.8%

Go Ahead Eagles preview: Looking to get back to winning ways

A stoppage-time equaliser from Gerrit Nauber handed Go Ahead Eagles a hard-fought 2-2 draw away at Fortuna Sittard last weekend.

Holding midfielder Calvin Twigt received his marching orders in that contest, becoming the first player to be sent off in the Eredivisie this season. In Twigt’s absence this weekend, Yassir Rahmouni is expected to partner Evert Linthorst in Melvin Boel's double pivot system, while Milan Smit leads the line.

On the injury front, left-back Pim Saathof remains out due to cruciate ligament tear.

Predicted lineup: De Busser (GK), James, Kramer, Deijl, Linthorst, Rahmouni, Suray, Edvardsen, Margaret & Smit.

Ajax preview: A few absentees

Newly promoted Telstar were made to rue their chances early on against Ajax, who went on to claim all three points courtesy of a brace from Wout Weghorst on either side of the half.

The visitors will now look to mark their first trip this season with a victory, as they bid to clinch the Eredivisie title, having narrowly missed out on it last campaign.

Right-back Youri Regeer is touch-and-go for this meeting after sustaining an injury last time out. However, Brian Brobbey, Josip Sutalo, and Branco van den Boomen are ruled out because of injury.

Coach Johnny Heitinga could stick with his starting XI from last Sunday if Regeer is ruled fit to play.

Predicted lineup: Jaros (GK), Gaaei, Bouwman, Baas, Wijndal, Berghuis, Klaassen, Taylor, Traore, Weghort & Moro.

Wout Weghorst put in a man-of-the-match performance last weekend, scoring a brace in Ajax's 2-0 victory over Telstar. The former Burnley forward has now scored in three consecutive league games, stretching back to the previous season. He will look to extend that streak on Sunday afternoon.
