Genoa's Serie A campaign has been troubling so far, and Saturday's result did little to fully ease those concerns, with the Grifone conceding 26 shots to their promoted opponents. 

Having already shipped eight goals across their opening four matchdays, the Ligurian side's defensive structure under De Rossi remains a genuine worry, and the former Roma coach will know a cup exit here would only intensify the pressure.

Sudtirol arrive as clear underdogs given their limited history, but the Tyrolean club have shown they can punch above their weight, remaining in the second division for four straight seasons since winning promotion from Serie C.

Possanzini has made an encouraging start to this campaign, progressing past Catanzaro on penalties in round one and collecting eight points from a possible 12 in Serie B.

Their most recent outing, however, denied them an opportunity to top the Serie B table, with Alvin Okoro's first-half strike putting them ahead at home to Modena, only for an 88th-minute equaliser to cost them top spot in the table. 

SuHamza El Kaouakibi is the visitors' only confirmed absentee. Kenny Mixtur, who scored the late goal that forced penalties in round one, will expect to start again, while AC Milan loanee Kevin Zeroli is expected to feature in midfield.
