First-half draw

Their last meetings ended in a first-half draw.

The Stadio Luigi Ferraris sets the stage for a crucial bottom-half battle this Saturday as Genoa host Pisa in the Serie A encounter. Both sides enter the new year with an urgent need for points to pull away from the relegation zone.

Genoa initially enjoyed a lift after Daniele De Rossi replaced Patrick Vieira as head coach in early November, going unbeaten in their first four Serie A matches under the Italian.

However, that momentum has since faded, with Il Grifone now suffering three straight league defeats, including back-to-back losses at home before Monday’s 3–1 setback away to De Rossi’s former club, Roma.

Sitting 17th in the table and just two points clear of the relegation zone, the Ligurian side will be desperate to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat.

Pisa would hope to take advantage of Genoa’s downturn in form, but they find themselves struggling at the opposite end of the table in 19th place after failing to win any of their last six matches.

It has been a tough return to Serie A following a 34-year absence, with the visitors managing just one league victory all season, a 1–0 win over fellow newcomers Cremonese. Alongside bottom club Fiorentina, Pisa remain one of only two sides yet to record an away win in the league this campaign.

Genoa vs Pisa prediction: Home team to get a narrow win

Key statistics

  • First-half draw was played in their last clash.
  • Genoa defeated Pisa in one of their last two recent meetings.
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in their last two recent meetings.

Correct score prediction: Genoa 1-0 Pisa

We anticipate a very tight game and we expect the home side to claim a narrow victory in this game. We believe the individual quality within the Grifone ranks will be the difference-maker.

Both teams have not had a good run of games, but Genoa’s form have been better than Pisa’s, so we are predicting a 1-0 victory for the host as they look to return to winning ways.

Pre-match odds and win probability: Genoa tipped to win

  • Home: 10/11 (1.91) – 52.4%
  • Draw: 11/5 (3.20) – 31.3%
  • Away: 7/2 (4.50) – 22.2%

*Odds provided by Ladbrokes. Subject to change.*

Genoa are favoured to take all three points, with odds of 1.91 implying a 52.4% chance of a home win. Pisa are viewed as the weaker team at 4.50 (22.2%), while the draw is priced at 3.20, representing a 31.3% probability.

The market odds show that Genoa should have the edge, though Pisa could make it competitive if they remain organised and take advantage of any opportunities.

Most recent head-to-head: History favours the home team

In this sequence of the last five meetings, Genoa have secured three victories, while the remaining two matches ended in draws. Pisa have failed to record a victory against their opponents in their most recent competitive tries.

Although their last meeting came in the Serie B, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw in 2023 and the second meeting was a 1-0 win for Genoa in 2022, while the remaining meetings were in the 90s.

Leo Ostigard has emerged as Genoa’s key attacking influence in recent weeks, delivering a run of performances that underline his importance to the side. The forward has been directly involved in four goals this season, scoring three times and providing one assist.

The attacker recently returned from an injury and was on the bench in their last game, but he will be looking to start this encounter and help his team get back to winning ways against Pisa.
