Fleetwood – Shrewsbury Preview: Latest Form, News, and Potential Lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Fleetwood vs Shrewsbury lineups.

Fleetwood

Last weekend Fleetwood had a decent showing on their visit to Derby but still lost 0:1 and conceded the only goal early. Had chances to equalise but lacked composure in front of goal.

The Cod Army are making a very slow start to the season (W0 D1 L4). Their main issues so far had been in defence. They conceded 10 goals in the 5 games played.

The problems at the back can be explained by the fact that the team’s best defender Sarpong-Wiredu and the projected new starter at left-back Montgomery are nursing injuries right now. Striker Marriott is also doubtful but the options up front are better.

Predicted Lineup:

Lynch (GK), Rooney, Nsiala, Earl, Johnston, Vela, Mayor, Robertson, Patterson, Stockley & Omochere

Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury have shown mixed for so far. They won 2 and lost 2 in the first 4 rounds. Failed to score in both defeats but scored 2 in each of their wins. Last weekend the display was pretty toothless and this led to a 0-1 home loss vs Lincoln.

After sitting out most of last year injured star striker Udoh is yet to score despite starting all games so far. He’s still clearly not in top shape.

Due to difficult finances, Shrewsbury’s squad is very small and there are not many options for rotations. Also, in all of the last 3 rounds, there had been 3 16 and 17-year-olds on the bench just to make up the numbers.

Key wing-back Nurse is still sidelined. So is the new inner midfielder Thorpe. Both will remain out.

Predicted Lineup:

Marosi (GK), Feeney, Flanagan, Dunkley, Winchester, Kenneh, Perry, Bayliss, Shipley, Bowman & Udoh

Starting Lineups

The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.

Player to Watch: Shaun Rooney

Fleetwood’s wing-back Shaun Rooney is a very aggressive player who finished last season as the team’s second-best goalscorer with his 7 goals. Rooney is yet to score this year but he will be fancying his chances in the coming match as he scored in one of the matches vs Shrewsbury last year.
