Home team to win

Fiorentina have won three of their last five meetings.

The Stadio Artemio Franchi prepares for an intriguing encounter this Sunday as Fiorentina host Cremonese in the Italian Serie A, with both sides looking to start the new calendar year with a positive result.

Fiorentina’s hopes are fading fast after another setback last weekend, as a 1-0 defeat to Parma deepened a worrying crisis for the Viola. That loss marked their tenth defeat in just 17 league games, quickly overshadowing the brief optimism generated by their first Serie A win just before Christmas.

Paolo Vanoli has managed only two victories in his opening ten competitive matches in charge, although both wins have come in their last three home fixtures, offering a glimmer of encouragement for supporters at the Artemio Franchi.

Cremonese, meanwhile, began 2026 still in a relatively secure position despite a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Napoli, their fifth loss in the last eight matches. Sitting nine points clear of the relegation zone, Davide Nicola’s side are not in immediate danger, but their recent attacking struggles are a growing concern.

They have failed to score in three consecutive matches, including blanks in their last two away games against teams starting the round in the bottom three. That said, Cremonese’s overall away record this season is perfectly balanced, highlighted by surprise victories against AC Milan and Coppa Italia holders Bologna.

Fiorentina preview: Selection concerns despite returning players

Robin Gosens made his return to action last weekend, but Fiorentina remain without Jacopo Fazzini and long-term absentee Tariq Lamptey, both sidelined through injury.

Off the pitch, uncertainty surrounds Amir Richardson and Pablo Mari, who are both expected to leave the club, while last season’s leading scorer, Moise Kean, only returned to the squad on Thursday following an unexplained absence.

There is some positive news for Paolo Vanoli, however, with Manor Solomon set to arrive on loan. In addition, Luca Ranieri is back from suspension and could slot into central defence, despite recently relinquishing the captaincy to David De Gea.

Predicted lineup: De Gea (GK), Pongracic, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Dodo, Mandragora, Fagioli, Ndour, Parisi, Gudmundsson & Kean

Last five fixtures

  • 27.12.25 – Parma 1 – 0 Fiorentina
  • 21.12.25 – Fiorentina 5 – 1 Udinese
  • 18.12.25 – Lausanne 1 – 0 Fiorentina
  • 14.12.25 – Fiorentina 1 – 2 Verona
  • 11.12.25 – Fiorentina 2 – 1 Dynamo Kyiv

Cremonese preview: Suspension boost, minimal absences

Cremonese are boosted by the return of Federico Ceccherini, who is available again after completing a one-match suspension. Michele Collocolo remains the visitors’ only confirmed absentee, leaving Davide Nicola with an otherwise near full-strength squad to choose from.

Predicted lineup: De Gea (GK), Pongracic, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Dodo, Mandragora, Fagioli, Ndour, Parisi, Gudmundsson & Kean

Last five fixtures

  • 28.12.25 – Cremonese 0 – 2 Napoli
  • 20.12.25 – Lazio 0 – 0 Cremonese
  • 13.12.25 – Torino 1 – 0 Cremonese
  • 07.12.25 – Cremonese 2 – 0 Lecce
  • 01.12.25 – Bologna 1 – 3 Cremonese

Player to watch: Moise Kean

Fiorentina forward Moise Kean is currently the most influential player in the Viola squad and he has been in sensational form throughout the current campaign, despite their poor form.

The Italian international has recorded four goals and one assist this season. He possesses the physical strength to hold up the ball and his clinical finishing has been the primary reason for the goals scored by the team.
