With the Eredivisie back in full swing after the international break, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar go head-to-head in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash on Saturday. Having failed to win their last nine meetings, AZ will be out to end a poor four-year spell against the hosts and potentially open up a five-point lead at the top of the league standings.

Since suffering their first defeat of the season on September 9 when they were beaten 5-1 by Spanish champions Barcelona in the Champions League curtain-raiser, Feyenoord have bounced back in style, picking up two wins from two in the league.
A 7-0 victory over PEC Zwolle at the Mac3Park Stadion on September 13 was followed by another five-star display just before the international break when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men stormed to a 5-0 win over Utrecht on home turf.
Feyenoord turned in an attacking show of class at De Kuip, with goals from Nacho Ferri, Luciano Valente, Gaoussou Diarra and a first-half brace from Anis Hadj Moussa condemning Utrecht to their fourth league defeat of the season.
Having finished as runners-up in the Eredivisie last season, De Stadionclub have made a promising start to their quest for a first league crown since 2023, going unbeaten in their opening seven games so far to sit second in the league table with 17 points from the first 21 available.
Central to their impressive start has been the solid job done at the attacking end of the pitch, where Feyenoord have netted 25 goals already, one more than any other side in the division, while keeping three clean sheets and conceding six at the opposite end of the pitch.
Like the home side, AZ Alkmaar’s first defeat this season came on the continental scene back in September when they were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland in their Europa League opener at the Stadium of Light.
However, Leeroy Echteld’s men bounced back on their return to league action four days later, securing a 1-0 victory over Telstar at AFAS Stadion courtesy of a first-half strike from Dutch international Mexx Meerdink.
Alongside Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar are one of just two sides yet to suffer defeat in the Eredivisie this season, picking up six wins and one draw from their seven games to sit two points clear at the top of the league table.
While AZ will look to continue from where they left off before the international break and remain in pole position in the standings, they will need to be at their best against a Feyenoord side they have failed to get the better of in their last nine attempts, losing seven and claiming two draws since a 2-1 victory in February 2022.

Whispers’ prediction: Feyenoord 2-1 AZ Alkmaar
This is a really tough match to call — both teams will believe that they are the favourites, having kicked off the season on a strong note, and we are expecting an exciting top-of-the-table clash at De Kuip.
The bookmakers have Feyenoord as favourites to secure all three points at 4/5 (1.80), and we are also tipping Van Bronckhorst’s men to get the job done, extending their dominant streak on home turf this year.
Goal range of 2-4 goals is currently priced at 57/100 (1.57), and with five of Feyenoord’s last seven games seeing both sides score, BTTS – Yes at 2/5 (1.40) is another favourable option.
Feyenoord to win + BTTS – Yes sits at 187/100 (2.87), which is perhaps the value bet for us here, while the correct score market has a correct score of 2-1 at 8/1 (9.00).
> Feyenoord to win + BTTS at 187/100 (2.87) | Likelihood: Possible
> Goal range – 2-4 goals at 57/100 (1.57)| Likelihood: Possible
> Correct score: 2-1 at 8/1 (9.00) | Likelihood: Outsider
