Excelsior preview: Van Gassel questionable

Goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel sustained an injury in the opening weekend of the season, as Excelsior lost 5-0 to his former team, NEC Nijmegen. The shot-stopper now faces a race to be fit ahead of this game. However, Tijmen Holla will take his place in goal should Van Gassel fail to recover in time.

Following that crushing defeat, Excelsior will look to bounce back, but considering the opponents they are facing this weekend, it could be easier said than done.

Coach Ruben den Uil will most likely stick with the 4-2-3-1 strategy from last time out, with Mike van Duinen expected to lead the line.

Predicted lineup: Holla (GK), Zagre, Henderiks, Widell, Bronkhorst, Carlen, Middendorp, De Regt, Naujoks, Fernandes & Duinen.

Feyenoord preview: Plagued by injuries

Feyenoord were eliminated in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League earlier this week after suffering a disappointing 5-2 defeat at Fenerbahce.

De Stadionclub won their opening league game against NAC Breda and will aim to mark their first game on the road with a victory, with Robin van Persie likely to stick with his strongest XI.

However, Feyenoord will be without a lot of players due to injuries, including Chris-Kevin Nadje (foot), Shiloh ‘t Zand (knee), Jacob Moder (undisclosed), Thomas Beelen (broken leg), Gernot Trauner (Achilles tendon), Jeyland Mitchell (muscle), Antef Tsoungui (ACL) and Mannou Berger.

Predicted lineup: Wellenreuther (GK), Read, Ahmedhodzic, Watanabe, Lotomba, Targhalline, Valente, Moussa, Steijn, Diarra & Ueda.

Tsuyoshi Watanabe put in an impressive performance earlier this week, scoring a brace in Feyenoord's 5-2 defeat at Fenerbahce. The Japanese defender was directly involved in three goals in five appearances since he joined Feyenoord from Gent about three weeks ago. It will be interesting to see how he performs this weekend.
