England to win to nil

England kept a clean sheet in their first match under Thomas Tuchel.

England will continue their World Cup qualifying campaign on Monday, 24 March when they take on Latvia at Wembley Stadium.

The Three Lions got off to the perfect start on Friday, both in terms of World Cup qualification and the Thomas Tuchel era, when they defeated Alabania 2-0 and will fancy their chances of making it two wins from two on Monday night.

Latvia also won their first match of qualification on Friday, defeating Andorra away from home but will see this match as nothing more than a free hit.

As part of this week's World Cup qualifying betting tips, check out our England vs Latvia prediction below.

England vs Latvia prediction: More of the same for England

Key Stats

  • England have lost just two of their last 14 matches.
  • England have won their last three matches without conceding a goal.
  • Latvia have won just one of their last five matches.
  • Fewer than four goals have been scored in three of England's last four home matches.

Correct score prediction: England 3-0 Latvia

England made light work of Albania on Friday night and they are ranked 75 places higher than Latvia so it should be even more comfortable on Monday for the Three Lions. The reality is, 3-0 would perhaps be seen as an underperformance but key English attacking players aren't performing to their levels at the moment so three goals is arguably their current ceiling.

Pre-game odds and win probability: England start as huge favourites

  • HOME: 1/33 (1.03) – 97.1%
  • DRAW: 18/1 (19.00) – 5.3%
  • AWAY: 55/1 (56.00) – 1.8%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The England vs Latvia odds are just about as brutal as expected with England priced as significant favourites. Ladbrokes have given the Three Lions a 97.1% chance of winning the match while Latvia have been given just a 1.8% chance of springing the ultimate shock.

Most recent H2Hs: A first-ever encounter

Monday night marks the first time that England and Latvia have ever met before on the football pitch which adds an extra layer of intrigue to the fixture. The chance to play at Wembley Stadium is one that the Latvian players will no doubt relish.

England preview: A night where they can't really win

Whenever England take on a low-ranked team at Wembley, the nation expects a big win and goals at regular intervals. Even if the Three Lions went out and won more 8-0, they wouldn't receive an awful lot of plaudits for it so it will be a strange night ahead. Thomas Tuchel will likely use the match as an opportunity to get a look at some of the fringe players in his squad.

Predicted lineup: Pickford (GK), James, Guehi, Colwill, Livramento, Henderson, Jones, Bowen, Bellingham, Rogers, Kane

Latvia preview: Nothing to lose

Latvia come into this match with a spring in their step after beating Andorra on Friday night but they will almost certainly know that they are in for a beating on Monday night. Regardless, this is a free hit for them and nothing more than a chance to test themselves against some of the sport's elite.

Predicted lineup: Zviedris (GK), Jurkovskis, Balodis, Cernomordijs, Savalnieks, Savaljevs, Melniks, Ciganiks, Zelenkovs, Ikaunieks, Gutkovskis

Player to watch: Morgan Rogers

morgan rogers

After his Aston Vill teammate, Marcus Rashford, failed to produce the goods in England's clash with Albania the weekend, Morgan Rogers is likely to be given a chance from the start on Monday night. The exciting attacking midfielder has made just three international appearances so far in his career but with a new manager at the helm, this is a golden opportunity to impress.
