Empoli looking to close the gap on Sassuolo with a victory
Empoli were unable to avoid defeat at home to high-flying Atalanta last time out. Hateboer opened the scoring for the visitors in the 32nd-minute and Lookman added a second goal just before the hour mark to effectively end any Empoli hopes. It could have been worse for the home side as Atalanta missed a penalty in the opening 45-minutes and the hosts will need to improve in the final third against Sassuolo on Saturday.
