Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (2.5/5): Burgos not bullish on Luiz's exit

Fulham have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to bring Douglas Luiz back to the Premier League from Juventus. They are pushing to sign the ex-Aston Villa midfielder in a loan deal.

The story comes from journalist Eduardo Burgos, who insists the Brazilian wants to continue in Turin, despite his struggles at Juve and enquiries from different clubs.

Value (3.5/5): Good opportunity on loan

It is understood that Fulham want to sign the 26-year-old on loan. He only joined Juventus from Villa in a deal worth £42m last summer. Still highly rated in England, Luiz would be seen as a brilliant arrival if no significant fee is involved.

Suitability (3.5/5): Tenacious midfielder

Marco Silva has turned Fulham into one of the hardest teams to break down in the league. Much of that is due to out-of-possession work of his midfielders. Luiz, who impressed with his tenacious style of play at Villa, appears to be a perfect target in that regard. On top of his engine, he is also composed in possession.

Upgrade? (4/5): Likely Pereira replacement

Fulham have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent days, largely due to uncertainty over Andreas Pereira's future, as he has attracted interest from Palmeiras and Marseille. Should the 29-year-old depart Craven Cottage, Luiz could come in as his direct replacement and add more steel to Silva's midfield.

Logic (3/5): Plenty of options

The ex-Villa star has been linked with Man City and Champions League spot chasers Nottingham Forest previously. With Spurs now also believed to be in the mix, Fulham would have to work hard to convince him to pick Silva's project over those. As far as Juve are concerned, they appear open to letting him leave.

Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25

The timing may not be preferred by Luiz, but it would be best for him to return to England instead of hampering his development under Thiago Motta, who clearly has different priorities. Silva may hand him a great opportunity to rediscover his best self.
