Denmark to win to nil

Denmark have won two of their last three home matches without conceding a goal

Denmark will take on Scotland in a World Cup qualifier on Friday, 5 September, as both teams look to search for a win to kickstart their campaigns.

The hosts have taken part in both of the previous two editions of the World Cup, so it would not be considered a shock if they didn't qualify for next summer's tournament.

Scotland, meanwhile, are searching for their first appearance at a World Cup since 1998.

As part of our latest round of World Cup qualifying betting tips, here is our Denmark vs Scotland prediction.

Denmark vs Scotland prediction: The hosts to start with a win

Key Stats

  • Denmark haven't conceded a goal in five of their last six matches.
  • Scotland have lost their last six away matches to teams ranked higher than Denmark.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in 10 of Denmark's last 13 competitive matches.

Correct score prediction: Denmark 2-0 Scotland

Steve Clarke has consistently struggled in away matches against teams ranked inside the world's top 25, and there is nothing to suggest that anything will change this week. The hosts have been excellent on home soil over the past year, and given they have managed to keep the likes of Serbia, Switzerland and Portugal from scoring recently, there is every chance they do the same against Scotland.

Pre-game odds and win probability: The visitors are the underdogs

  • HOME: 4/7 (1.57) – 63.6%
  • DRAW: 3/1 (4.00) – 25%
  • AWAY: 9/2 (5.50) – 18.2%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The Denmark vs Scotland odds are weighted in favour of the home team, but there remains value in backing a Denmark win at 4/7. Ladbrokes have given the Danes a 63.6% chance of winning the match, while Scotland have been given just an 18.2% chance of picking up an away victory.

Most recent H2Hs: A first meeting in four years

This will be the first time that Denmark and Scotland have played against each other since 2021, when they met in qualifying for the Qatar World Cup. Both teams enjoyed victories in their respective home ties during that qualifying campaign, with Denmark running out as 2-0 winners at home, the same scoreline we are predicting for Friday.

Denmark preview: Legend misses out

Christian Eriksen has been without a club since Man Utd released him this summer, and the 33-year-old has paid the price for his lack of match action by missing out on the Denmark squad for this international break. In happier news, Andreas Christensen returns to the squad for the first time in 14 months following his long recovery from injury.

Predicted lineup: Schmeichel (GK), Maehle, Andersen, Christensen, Dorgu, Hjumland, Hojberg, Dreyer, Damsgaard, Olsen, Hojlund

Last five matches

  • Denmark 5-0 Lithuania
  • Denmark 2-1 Northern Ireland
  • Portugal 5-2 Denmark
  • Denmark 1-0 Portugal
  • Serbia 0-0 Denmark

Scotland preview: Missing Gordon

Veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon misses out due to injury, so Angus Gunn will be trusted between the sticks on Friday night. Aaron Hickey is available once again, though, after a long injury layoff, but Clarke is expected to be cautious with full-back at the request of Brentford.

Predicted lineup: Gunn (GK), Ralston, Souttar, McKenna, Robertson, Gilmour, McLean, Christie, McTominay, McGinn, Adams

Last five matches

  • Liechtenstein 0-4 Scotland
  • Scotland 1- 3 Iceland
  • Scotland 0-3 Greece
  • Greece 0-1 Scotland
  • Poland 1-2 Scotland

Player to watch: Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay's form for Napoli since moving to Italy at the beginning of last season, but he has been producing the goods for Scotland for even longer. The 28-year-old has started the current season in fine form, too, and scored Napoli's first goal of the season in their opening match a fortnight ago.
