Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (3/5): Cunha could still leave Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers calmed the nerves of their fans late in January by extending Matheus Cunha's contract until 2029. However, the player, who was wanted by Arsenal in the winter window, remains open to leaving Wolves in the summer and is set to attract renewed interest from top Premier League clubs.

That's according to Football Insider, who fail to provide much detail about their source.

Value (3/5): Wolves to bag big

Wolves have safeguarded their talisman's value by including a £62.5million release clause in his new contract. Accordingly, even if a new suitor knocked on their doors over the summer, they would fetch a pretty significant transfer fee for the forward with 11 goals and four assists to his name.

Suitability (4/5): Elite presence upfront

The Brazilian has played all across the frontline for Wolves but he mostly thrives when allowed to dictate the game from central zones. He is exceptional with the ball at his feet, capable of manipulating the play with his dribbling and link-up play. Arsenal's fluid attack could certainly benefit from his prolificness and flair.

Upgrade? (3/5): A difference maker

In Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta already has a versatile forward with a similar profile to Cunha. However, unlike the Brazilian, the Germany international struggles to produce clutch moments out of nowhere in crucial games. If Arteta fails to win the Premier League title this season, he should certainly look to replace Havertz with a new talisman.

Logic (3.5/5): No Champions League football at Molineux

The new contract has guaranteed atleast another six months at Molineux for Cunha. However, should he continue to score and assist frequently, he is bound to attract more suitors in the summer. The 25-year-old is keen to play Champions League football again and it's hard to see him turn down that opportunity ahead of the new campaign.

Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25

There's plenty of time before we fully understand Arsenal's summer transfer plans. Still, with no major addition in January, Arteta will have plenty of funds to acquire a talent like Cunha.
