Croatia, ranked 11th in the world and semi-finalists in each of the last two World Cups, are not among the leading favourites for the upcoming tournament.

Recent form has contributed to that perception, with Zlatko Dalic’s side suffering consecutive friendly defeats to Brazil and Belgium after previously enjoying a nine-match unbeaten streak.

While those setbacks have raised concerns ahead of their World Cup opener against England, Croatia can draw confidence from their strong home record.

They have won five straight matches and remained unbeaten in their last nine games on home soil before Tuesday’s loss to Belgium.

Slovenia, meanwhile, missed out on World Cup qualification after collecting only four points during the campaign.

Their recent record has been underwhelming, with just one victory in their last nine outings.

Although they staged a comeback to defeat Montenegro 3-2 in March, they were held to a 1-1 draw by a ten-man Cyprus side on Thursday.

Facing Croatia represents a tougher challenge, but manager Bostjan Cesar will view the encounter as valuable preparation for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.

Encouragingly, Slovenia have been difficult to beat away from home, losing only two of their last nine road matches, though each of those wins came by a single-goal margin.
