Pisa to score first

Pisa have scored first in six of their last eight matches against Cremonese.

Cremonese must return to winning ways if they are to keep their Serie A survival hopes alive when they host Pisa at Stadio Giovanni Zini on Sunday.

La Cremo sit 18th in the table with 28 points, four adrift of 17th-placed Lecce, but their recent form is deeply concerning after going five Serie A matches without a victory.

Pisa, meanwhile, have already been relegated after collecting just 18 points from 35 matches, meaning they can approach their remaining fixtures with far less pressure before preparing for life in the second tier next season.

Back in March, when Marco Giampaolo guided Cremonese to a 2-0 victory over Parma, the decision to replace Davide Nicola appeared to be an inspired one.

However, that brief optimism quickly faded as familiar problems resurfaced for La Cremo, who have managed just one win in their last 21 league matches and now require a major performance against Pisa to keep their survival hopes alive.

Cremonese have taken just one point from their last five Serie A games, scoring only twice in that period, while their home form has been equally alarming, with the Tigers winless in their last 10 matches on their own turf, leaving very little encouragement heading into the final stretch of the campaign.

On the injury front, Federico Baschirotto suffered a muscle problem in the first half against Lazio and will miss this weekend’s fixture.

Pisa have endured a dreadful campaign from start to finish, conceding 63 goals – the highest tally of any side in Serie A this season.

With relegation now confirmed, the big question is what sort of mindset the Nerazzurri will bring into this contest. They have lost six consecutive matches since their 3-1 victory over Cagliari and arrive on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Lecce.

Across the entire campaign, Pisa have managed only two league wins, which underlines the scale of their struggles, though they can at least draw confidence from having won each of their last three meetings against Cremonese.

Oscar Hiljemark will be without Marius Marin (muscle), Matteo Tramoni (muscle) and Daniel Denoon (ankle), but otherwise Pisa have no major injury concerns.

Whispers predicts: Cremonese 2-2 Pisa

Cremonese may be favourites at 4/6 to win this match, but their recent form and poor head-to-head record do little to inspire confidence in backing them to collect all three points.

With relegation already confirmed, Pisa could approach the contest with far greater freedom, which may open the door to an entertaining encounter. Six of Pisa’s last eight matches have produced three or more goals, making over 2.5 goals at 23/20 a particularly appealing option.

Pisa have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 matches, while La Cremo have also struggled defensively in this fixture, failing to shut out their opponents in the previous four meetings, which makes BTTS – Yes at 11/10 another attractive betting angle.
