Exeter – Cheltenham preview: latest form, news, and potential lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Exeter vs Cheltenham lineups.

Exeter

Last weekend Exeter didn’t have a break like most other League One teams. They faced Leyton Orient and the 1-2 result brought their first league defeat of the campaign. The display was not all bad but the Grecians showed wastefulness in attack and this proved costly.

Exeter recently sold their star striker Sam Nombe and in the coming games, they will be looking for a new reliable goal provider. As the last match showed converting chances could be an issue right now.

Both Sinisalo (goalie) and Niskanen (left-back) are available again after returning from international duties.

The main issues are in midfield where 3 potential starters nurse injuries. Both Kite and Billington are long-term absentees. Rankine is also complaining with a knock so he is deemed touch-and-go.

Predicted Lineup:

Sinisalo (GK), Sweeney, Aimson, Hartridge, Niskanen, Trevitt, Carroll, Jules, Richards, Mitchell & Aitchinson

Cheltenham

Cheltenham have made an awful start to the new season. They are yet to score a league goal and have earned a single point from their first six matches.

It has been a struggle watching the Seagulls huff and puff without creating any decent chances match after match. Right now no other team offers less in attack in any of the top 4 divisions of English football.

To make matters worse coach Wade Elliott has tons of selection issues. Right now there are 8 players nursing problems and 5 others will have to be assessed after they return from international duties late in the week.

The two main wing-backs Smith and Henry are sidelined. So is, last season’s leading goalscorer Lloyd. In further issues in defence, all of Horton, Long and Bradbury are deemed doubtful and will have to face late fitness tests.

Predicted Lineup:

Southwood (GK), Long, Davies, Freestone, Ferry, Bonds, Sercombe, Williams, Keena, Street & Goodwin

Starting Lineups

The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.

Player to Watch: Luke Southwood

Because Cheltenham are yet to score a goal after 6 rounds the role of their starting goalkeeper Luke Southwood becomes even more important. If the Seagulls want to earn anything from the coming match Southwood needs to be rock solid.

He is a talented shot-stopper and all eyes will be on him every time the hosts apply some pressure.
