Charlotte entered the World Cup break on a high, winning back-to-back games on home turf after a six-match winless run across all competitions.

Playing at home is a bonus for the Crown, who are one of the best performing home sides in the league. They have lost only twice at the Bank of America Stadium this season in nine outings.

Dean Smith will now be aiming to make it three straight MLS victories – a feat not replicated since September last year. A win here would take them within touching distance of the top three.

David Schnegg is suspended for a red card he received against New England Revolution, while Nathan Bryne and Harry Toffolo are both doubtful to appear as well for Charlotte.

On the other hand, Atlanta United are marred with several injuries – Sergio Santos, Steven Alzate, Matthew Edwards, Ajani Fortune and Fafa Picault could all miss this encounter.

After 15 games, the Five Stripes sit in the penultimate spot in the Eastern Conference table, with just 11 points to their name.

They remain winless in four straight league games, losing three of them, with their last victory coming in a 3-1 win over CF Montreal in early May.

Their woes mainly stem from their inability to score frequently as they carry the tag of the league's poorest goalscorers.

Whispers predicts: Charlotte 3-1 Atlanta United

At 4/5 (1.80), Charlotte are favourites to secure all three points against a side winless in five straight competitive games.

Over 3.5 total goals at 6/4 (2.50) is worth a shot given these are two sides on the opposing ends of the spectrum. Charlotte’s matches have averaged 3.1 goals per game, while Atlanta’s games have averaged 2.5 goals.

Similar to the punt above, BTTS – Yes & Over 2.5 total goals at 1/1 (2.00) is also worth a look.

Charlotte midfielder Pep Biel is their top goalscorer, with seven goals and four assists this season. He has found the net twice in his last four appearances. Backing him to score at 5/4 (2.25) makes perfect sense.
