Celtic transfer news: Hoops enquire for ‘impressive’ World Cup star

Celtic have enquired for Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, according to Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph.

The Hoops are keen to sign the Egyptian after an ‘impressive' World Cup, and are exploring the conditions of a possible move.

Hassan only has one year left on his contract at Oviedo, so the 24-year-old could potentially be available for a cut-price deal.

Hassan played a part in Egypt reaching the round of 16 of the World Cup, where they were agonisingly beaten 3-2 by eventual finalists Argentina after going two goals up against the then world champions.

The winger grabbed one of the assists in that game, and he also featured in the Pharaohs' round of 32 clash against Australia, where they eventually won 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

Hassan also played in four friendlies in the lead up to the World Cup, including in Egypt's impressive 0-0 draw against newly-crowned world champions Spain.

FW Verdict: Hassan could prove to be a bargain for Celtic

Given he only has one left on his deal at Oviedo, Hassan would be available for a cut price, which could prove to be a bargain for Celtic.

His market value is around £3m according to Transfermarkt, which would not be too much of a financial outlay for the Hoops given they have already spent around £4.7m to sign Camilo Duran this window.

He is only 24 as well, so even if it does not work out in Glasgow, he is sure to have some resale value.

Celtic need to sign a new winger after the permanent departure of Luis Palma to Lech Poznan, following his loan spell in Poland.

Hassan has showcased his ability from wide positions at the World Cup, while at Oviedo, he was playing at a high level in La Liga.

Nonetheless, this is a market opportunity for the Hoops that they will not want to miss.
