Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Sources kept under wraps
Newcastle are already planning for life without star striker Alexander Isak, and are plotting a move for Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Swede's replacement on Tyneside.
The news comes from teamtalk.com, who also claim Isak is Arsenal's top target in 2025. The site claims to have its sources, but there is little information as to who those sources are close to.
Value (4/5): Calvert-Lewin's contract winding down
At present, Calvert-Lewin has a contract on Merseyside until the end of the season, although there is a chance he will sign a new deal once The Friedkin Group complete their takeover of the Toffees.
If DLC wants a move away, then Newcastle could wait to get him on a free come the end of the season, or pay something in the region of his £20 million valuation – small change if they sell Isak for over £100 million.
Suitability (4/5): Lone striker role is his usual job
Under Sean Dyche, Calvert-Lewin operates as a lone centre-forward and is the target of long balls forward from Jordan Pickford. At Newcastle, he will also play up front on his own, but will be the target of crosses from the likes of Kieran Trippier and former Everton teammate Anthony Gordon.
Upgrade (1.5/5): Not as clinical as Isak
With Newcastle's style, there is a distinct possibility that they can get more out of Calvert-Lewin than Everton can, but only two goals in 11 appearances will be a concern.
He last reached double-figures in the league in the 2020/21 season, and has since lost his place in the England squad – not what Newcastle fans would have in mind as an Isak replacement.
Logic (4/5): Calvert-Lewin will want a taste of Europe
With only one UEFA Europa League season under his belt, Calvert-Lewin will be eager to swap relegation battles for fighting for the European places.
Eddie Howe's style could be more conducive to him rediscovering his best form and give the 27-year-old a chance to add to his 11 England caps.
Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25
Given where the respective clubs are in the Premier League hierarchy at present, Calvert-Lewin would surely see a lot of positives surrounding a switch to Newcastle.
If Howe really wants him, it suggests he knows how to get the best out of him, but a replacement for Isak? We're not too sure.
