FT Draw

Torino have failed to win eight of their last nine away matches across all competitions.

Needing at least a point to guarantee safety, Cagliari play host to Torino at the Unipol Domus in the penultimate round of the Italian Serie A on Sunday evening.

Torino, meanwhile, have enjoyed a commendable late-season form and will be out to secure back-to-back victories for the second time since the start of April.

Off the back of a 10th-placed finish last season, it has been another challenging league campaign for Cagliari, who are set to end in the bottom half of the table for a third consecutive year since returning to the top flight back in 2023.

Fabio Pisacane’s men were condemned to their 17th league defeat last Saturday, when they were beaten 2-0 by Udinese on home turf, with Adam Buksa and Idrissa Gueye netting second-half goals to inspire the visitors to a second consecutive victory.

Cagliari have now failed to win 11 of their last 13 league matches, losing eight and claiming three draws, a run which has put their three-year stint in the top flight under threat.

The Rossoblu have picked up 37 points from their 33 Serie A games so far to sit 16th in the league standings, six points above the relegation zone heading into the final two matches.

With a point this weekend guaranteeing their top-flight status, Cagliari will be backing themselves to get the job done at the Unipol Domus against an opposing side who have failed to win seven of their last 10 meetings since June 2020.

On the other hand, Torino turned in a resilient team display last weekend when they fought back from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.

With nothing to separate the two sides at half time, Kristian Thorstvedt broke the deadlock six minutes after the interval to put Sassuolo in front, but Giovanni Simeone and Marcus Pedersen hit back in a four-minute spell to turn the game on its head.

Head coach Roberto D’Aversa will be delighted by the manner of his side’s reaction in the wake of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Udinese a fortnight ago, a result which saw their four-game unbeaten run come to an end.

A slow start to the year saw Torino pick up just two wins from their first nine games, but they have since turned things around, going unbeaten in seven of their subsequent 10 outings, claiming five wins and picking up two draws.

This fine run of results has seen the Turin outfit equal their total point tally from last term, as they sit 12th in the Serie A table with 44 points from 33 matches, two points above 13th-placed Parma.

Whispers predicts: Cagliari 1-1 Torino

While Cagliari have struggled for results down the decisive final stretch of the season, Torino are in strong form and will fancy themselves this weekend.

Cagliari secured a 2-1 victory in December’s reverse fixture, and with their sights now set on confirming their survival at the earliest opportunity, we expect them to take a cautious approach to this one and hold out for a share of the spoils.

A draw at the Unipol Domus this weekend is currently priced at 3.10, and with both sides scoring in five of their last seven encounters, BTTS – Yes at 1.90 is another appealing option.

The goal range of 2-4 currently sits at 1.57, which is another strong possibility, while the correct score market has 1-1 at 6.00.
