Cagliari to win

Cagliari are unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 games against Parma and we predict they will make the most of their home advantage this weekend.

Cagliari and Parma set out in search of their first win of the 2025-26 Serie A campaign when they square off at Unipol Domus on Saturday. Having stumbled into the new campaign, FootballWhispers examines the odds of both sides getting their season off and running this weekend.

Cagliari vs Parma prediction: Goals galore on the cards

Key stats

  • There have been at least three goals scored in four of the last five meetings between Cagliari and Parma, with a combined 15 goals scored across the five games.
  • Parma have failed to win any of their last eight visits to Unipol Domus, losing six and picking up two draws since a 1-0 victory in May 2013.
  • Cagliari have picked up just one win from their most recent six Serie A matches while losing four and claiming one draw since the start of May.
  • Parma are in a run of just one win from their 14 away games in the league, losing eight and picking up five draws since the start of December 2024.

Correct score prediction: Cagliari 3-1 Parma

Cagliari have lost just one of their last 11 games against Parma, so history will certainly be on their side this weekend as both sides look to secure their first victory of the season.

That said, we predict Cagliari will make the most of their home advantage and see off Parma, who have failed to win 13 of their 14 Serie A games on the road since December.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Cagliari backed by the bookies

  • HOME: 23/20 (2.15) – 46.5%

With a 46.5% win probability, Cagliari are favoured by the bookies to come out on top at Unipol Domus this weekend, compared to Parma’s 28.6%.

Cagliari were dealt their first defeat of the 2025-26 Serie A campaign last time out when they fell to a 1-0 loss against Napoli just before the international break.

As for Parma, Patrick Cutrone struck with five minutes left in the game to cancel out Mario Pasalic’s 79th-minute opener and hand them a 1-1 draw against Atalanta last time out.

Most recent H2Hs: Cagliari the dominant side

Cagliari have been the dominant side in this fixture across the last 10 meetings between the two teams, having picked up five wins and four draws since September 2019.

Parma’s only win in that time came in their Serie B clash back in April 2023, when they fought back from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory courtesy of second-half goals from Franco Vazquez and Dennis Man.

Cagliari preview: Out to end a four-year run

Cagliari were left spitting feathers in their last outing before the international break as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Napoli after conceding a 95th-minute winner at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Fabio Pisacane’s men saw just 33% of the ball possession, but their defensive show of class left Napoli frustrated for most of the contest before Cameroonian international Frank Anguissa netted in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Prior to that, Cagliari fought back from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina in the Serie A curtain raiser on August 24, when Sebastiano Luperto struck in the 94th minute to cancel out Rolando Mandragora’s 68th-minute opener.

While Cagliari will be looking to find their feet and get off and running in the league this weekend, they have failed to win their opening three matches in each of their last four seasons in the Serie A.

However, it is worth noting that this run dates back to 2019, when they cruised to a 3-1 victory over Parma at the Ennio Tardini Stadium in round three of the 2019/20 campaign.

Predicted lineup: Caprile (GK), Zappa, Mina, Luperto, Palestra, Adopo, Prati, Folorunsho, Obert, Belotti & Esposito

Last five matches

  • Napoli 1-0 Cagliari
  • Cagliari 1-1 Fiorentina
  • Cagliari 1-1 Entella (Cagliari win on penalties)
  • Racing Club 1-1 Cagliari
  • Cagliari 1-0 Saint-Etienne

Parma preview: Four players ruled out

Like this weekend’s hosts, Parma have also had a difficult start to the new league campaign, taking on strong sides in Juventus and Atalanta in their opening two matches.

Having brushed aside Pescara 2-0 in the Coppa Italia first round on August 17, Carlos Cuesta’s men kicked off the new league season with a 2-0 defeat against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium one week later.

Parma turned in a resilient team display in their subsequent league outing just before the international break as they overturned a deficit to play out a 1-1 draw with Atalanta at the Ennio Tardini Stadium on August 31.

While the Gialloblu will look to build on that result and get off and running in the new campaign, they will need to be at their best at Unipol Domus, where they are without a win in 11 straight matches since a 1-0 victory in May 2013.

Parma will head into the weekend without the services of Matija Frigan (knee), Jacob Ondrejka (leg), Hernani (ankle) and Nicolas Trabucchi (knee), who have all been sidelined through injuries.

Predicted lineup: Suzuki (GK), Prato, Circati, Valenti, Lovik, Bernabe, Keita, Valeri, Almqvist , Sorensen & Cutrone

Last five matches

  • Parma 1-1 Atalanta
  • Juventus 2-0 Parma
  • Parma 2-0 Pescara
  • Heidenheim 2-1 Parma
  • Parma 3-1 Pro Vercelli

Player to watch – Patrick Cutrone

Having completed a loan switch from Como in the summer, Patrick Cutrone announced himself in Parma colours with an eye-catching display against Atalanta last time out and the experienced forward will be one to look out for this weekend.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a solid 2024-25 campaign as he crossed double digits for goal contributions, with seven goals and four assists in 23 league starts to help Como finish 10th in the league standings.

Cutrone made an instant impact on his Parma debut last time out, netting just five minutes after coming off the bench to hand Cuesta's side a 1-1 draw against Atalanta.

The Italian striker could be rewarded with a starting role this weekend, teaming up with 26-year-old Pontus Almqvist and fellow summer signing Oliver Sorensen, who joined from Midtjylland.
