Borussia Dortmund are nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and while such a gap does not mathematically put the title beyond BVB, there are only seven matchweeks remaining.

Dortmund should instead focus on distancing themselves from the teams below them, as while they boast an 11-point advantage over fifth-placed RB Leipzig, they face a challenging end to the season.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Dortmund have made the fifth most fouls per match in the Bundesliga (11.7).

In fact, the three games following their clash with Hamburger come against fourth-placed Stuttgart, sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen and third-placed Hoffenheim.

Niko Kovac can be pleased with the improvements that his side have displayed this term irrespective of Bayern's lead, with his team projected to end the season with 76 points, a total that would dwarf the 57 points they tallied in 2024-25.

With Dortmund still unable to select Emre Can in the backline, Kovac will likely start Waldemar Anton, Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini in the heart of defence.

Hamburg are six points ahead of 16th-placed St Pauli, who occupy the Bundesliga's relegation playoff spot, and they are nine ahead of 17th-placed Wolfsburg.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Hamburger have produced the fourth fewest touches inside the opposition's box this season (517).

The visitors' performances this season have far exceeded expectations considering they are a newly-promoted team, and they only need two more points to surpass the total they secured when they were relegated from the top flight in 2017-18.

HSV will arrive at Signal Iduna Park unbeaten in two games, but they have only experienced one win in their last five matches, a period in which they were beaten twice.

Hamburger will also be missing players from defence - centre-back Nicolas Capaldo is set to miss out - so expect Luka Vuskovic, Warmed Omari and Jordan Torunarigha to feature.

Whispers predicts: Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Hamburger SV

Considering their respective positions in the table, it is perhaps not surprising that a home victory has been priced at 1.4, with the the bookmakers seeing little reason to doubt Borussia Dortmund.

However, given BVB have been vulnerable defensively in recent weeks, there may be some value in predicting Over 0.5 Goals for Hamburg at 1.57.

Though Dortmund have looked susceptible at the back, they have been excellent at the other end of the pitch, and it could be sensible to back them to score Over 1.5 goals, priced at 1.4.

It should be noted that Hamburg have frequently managed to head into the interval level with their opponents, and with a Draw at Half Time priced at 2.6, perhaps punters should consider the possibility of another stalemate at half time.
