The 2026-27 German season gets underway with one of football's biggest rivalries, as Borussia Dortmund welcome Bayern Munich to Signal Iduna Park for Saturday's Supercup showdown.
Bayern arrive as Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal holders, while Dortmund earned their place in the curtain-raiser after finishing second in the German top flight last season.

Borussia Dortmund will head into Saturday's contest encouraged by the progress they made last season, having accumulated 73 Bundesliga points, conceded 17 fewer goals and finished two places higher than they did in 2024-25.
However, BVB were once again forced to settle for second place behind Bayern, meaning that they have now finished below their fierce rivals in the Bundesliga standings for 14 consecutive seasons.
Niko Kovac will be hoping to build on last term's improvement, although he will want to see his side become more potent in attack after they scored 70 league goals, one fewer than they managed during the previous campaign.
Dortmund's pre-season record has been somewhat inconsistent, with three wins, one draw and two defeats from six friendlies, but Saturday's match offers them an immediate opportunity to put those results behind them and make a statement against the reigning champions.
The hosts will also take confidence from their formidable home record last season, having won 13 of their 17 Bundesliga fixtures at Signal Iduna Park, although Bayern were one of only two sides to beat them there after claiming a 3-2 victory in February.
Kovac is expected to field a strong side for such a significant occasion, with Serhou Guirassy and Samuele Inacio set to provide attacking threat, while injuries to Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can could leave Filippo Mane, Joane Gadou and Ramy Bensebaini as his preferred defensive trio.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, arrive looking to continue where they left off after a remarkable 2025-26 campaign that saw them sweep aside their domestic rivals to claim both the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.
The Bavarians were particularly devastating in attack, with their total of 122 Bundesliga goals setting a new record for the most scored by a team in a single German top-flight season.
Vincent Kompany has retained key members of that prolific side, including Harry Kane and Michael Olise, leaving Bayern as overwhelming favourites to defend their Bundesliga crown and potentially embark on another dominant domestic campaign.
Their preparations for the new season have also been impressive, with Kompany's side winning five of their six friendlies, including victories over Aston Villa and RB Leipzig.
