First-half draw

Bologna have won their last three home meetings against Fiorentina.

Bologna will welcome Fiorentina in the Serie A at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Sunday, with the home team looking to end a five-match winless streak and reignite their push for a European spot.

Bologna finally eased the pressure after a worrying spell that saw them go seven Serie A matches without a win across the turn of the year. This run followed the disappointment of losing the Supercoppa Italiana final.

Thursday’s 3-2 success against Verona proved timely, reviving the Rossoblu’s European ambitions and trimming the gap to the top six to four points.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side now has the chance to register back-to-back league victories for the first time since late November. However, they have recently struggled at home, where they have lost three of their last four league fixtures, drawing the other.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, remain firmly embroiled in the relegation battle after conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with AC Milan, which followed a similarly frustrating 2-2 stalemate against Lazio.

Those results leave Paolo Vanoli’s team 18th, just three points from safety, having spent much of the season rooted to the bottom.

Encouragingly, the Viola have picked up the bulk of their points in recent weeks, taking eight from their last five matches and could extend their longest unbeaten run of the campaign. However, their task looks demanding away from home, having managed only two points from their last seven league trips.

Bologna vs Fiorentina prediction: Home team to claim narrow win

Key statistics

  • Bologna are unbeaten by Fiorentina in their last three home games.
  • The Rossoblu have won two of their last five clashes with Fiorentina.
  • BTTS has been played in three of Bologna’s last five encounters with the Viola.

Correct score prediction: Bologna 2-1 Fiorentina

We expect the home team to edge a close encounter. We predict a 2-1 victory for Bologna based on their solid home record against mid-table opposition and Fiorentina's struggle on the road this season.

The Rossoblu have generally been strong at the Dall'Ara, and despite their recent dip in form, they possess enough attacking quality to exploit a Fiorentina defence that has conceded in almost every away game this year.

While the visitors have shown resilience in recent draws against top sides, their tendency to concede late goals has been a recurring theme. We believe Bologna will control the midfield battle and ride on with the home crowd to get a win.

Pre-match odds and win probability: Bologna are slight favourites at home

  • Home: 11/10 (2.10) – 47.6%
  • Draw: 12/5 (3.40) – 29.4%
  • Away: 5/2 (3.50) – 28.6%

Odds provided by Ladbrokes. Subject to change.

The bookmakers slightly favour Bologna at home with odds of 2.10, suggesting a 47.6% chance of victory. Fiorentina are priced at 3.50, giving them a 28.6% chance of taking all three points, while the draw sits at 3.40 (29.4%), indicating a fairly balanced contest with no sure winner.

Most recent head-to-head: Historical edge remains with the host

We take a look at their previous records, with the last five competitive meetings between these two clubs showing a very even contest with plenty of goals. Bologna have won two, Fiorentina have won one and two matches have ended in draws.

The most recent clash was an entertaining 2-2 draw in Florence in 2025. Prior to that, Fiorentina edged a 3-2 thriller in the return leg, while Bologna secured a 1-0 victory at home in 2024.

This history of high-scoring affairs suggests that both teams are comfortable attacking each other and we rarely see a dull moment when these rivals meet.

Bologna preview: Absentees in the team

Bologna will be missing a few key players for this fixture. Nicolo Cambiaghi is serving the second match of a two-game suspension, while Jhon Lucumi and Federico Bernardeschi remain sidelined through injury, limiting head coach Vincenzo Italiano’s options.

In attack, Riccardo Orsolini will look to build on his midweek performance, ending a six-game Serie A goal drought, and is expected to lead the line alongside either Castro or Thijs Dallinga, providing the Rossoblù with their main scoring threat.

Predicted lineup: Ravaglia (GK), Zortea, Heggem, Vitik, Miranda, Freuler, Moro, Orsolini, Fabbian, Rowe & Castro

Last five fixtures

  • 15.01.26 – Verona 2–3 Bologna
  • 10.01.26 – Como 1–1 Bologna
  • 07.01.26 – Bologna 0–2 Atalanta
  • 04.01.26 – Inter 3–1 Bologna

Fiorentina preview: Squad updates and key absences

Fiorentina have been active in the winter transfer window to bolster a squad struggling near the bottom of Serie A. New signings Manor Solomon and Marco Brescianini could feature soon, with Leeds United winger Jack Harrison also expected to join, adding further options in attack.

Despite these reinforcements, head coach Paolo Vanoli will continue to be without veteran striker Edin Dzeko and long-term absentee Tariq Lamptey, both sidelined through injury.

Predicted lineup: De Gea (GK), Dodo, Comuzzo, Pongracic, Gosens, Mandragora, Fagioli, Brescianini, Solomon, Kean & Gudmundsson

Last five fixtures

  • 11.01.26 – Fiorentina 1–1 AC Milan
  • 07.01.26 – Lazio 2–2 Fiorentina
  • 04.01.26 – Fiorentina 1–0 Cremonese
  • 27.12.25 – Parma 1–0 Fiorentina
  • 21.12.25 – Fiorentina 5–1 Udinese

Player to watch: Santiago Castro

Santiago Castro remains one of the attacking threats in this Bologna side and is our player to watch for Sunday. With five goals and two assists to his name this season, the forward is pivotal to everything good that the Rossoblu do in the final third.

In his last five games, despite the team's struggles, he has been a constant threat and also created an assist in his last game. His ability to score goals and pressure defences will help Bologna in attack in this clash.
