Edward Iordănescu will have been delighted by the way his team performed against Ukraine on matchday one.

Romania scored three goals without reply the pick of the bunch coming from captain Nicolae Stanciu who curled the ball into the top left corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Romania's captain plays his club football in Saudi Arabia these days but that had no bearing on his ability to perform at the highest level for his country.

The 31-year-old, who has 15 goals in 71 caps for Romania, opened the scoring against Ukraine and set the tone of the afternoon as he and his teammates went on to dominate a game that they were expected to lose.

Will Romania's captain lead them to glory?

Stanciu never made it to any of the top European leagues during his career but did spend a couple of seasons at Belgian side Anderlecht so will be well-known to this weekend's opponents.
