Bayern Munich's defence of their Bundesliga crown is set to begin on Friday, when the champions take on visitors Stuttgart at Allianz Arena.
The Bavarians won their 13th title in 14 seasons in 2025-26, and while many will predict another first-placed finish, a defeat against Stuttgart would give hope to the rest of the Bundesliga that the champions could be toppled.

Bayern were widely predicted to win the league in 2025-26, but the nature of their win was historic, with the club breaking the record for most goals scored in a single top-flight season (122).
Vincent Kompany's side ended the campaign with a points total of 89 – his team only lost one league match – and he was two points shy of equalling the club's all-time Bundesliga points record.
The Bavarians come into the clash fresh from their Supercup final win against Borussia Dortmund on August 22, their 18th triumph in their last 26 competitive games.
If there was an area of improvement for the champions, it would be at the back given they ended 2025-26 with the second best record in terms of goals conceded (36), with Borussia Dortmund conceding two fewer goals.
The biggest concern for Bayern from an injury perspective is the absence of Jamal Musiala, who feinted twice during pre-season, and it has since emerged that he is dealing with a neurological disorder.
While his condition is not reported to be serious, it is understandable that Bayern have made the decision to take Musiala away from the public eye for a brief period, even if his sporting performance will supposedly not be impacted by his disorder.
Stuttgart may not have won the title, but their achievement of a fourth-placed finish should not be overlooked given they qualified for the Champions League for a second time in three seasons.
That was remarkable for a club that had last competed at the top table of European football in 2009-10, and the club's turnaround in fortunes has largely been a result of boss Sebastian Hoeness.
Die Roten may not have been as prolific as Bayern last term, but their return of 71 goals in the Bundesliga was only bettered by the Bavarians, though they did concede 13 more goals.
Stuttgart know that history suggests Bayern will win considering they have lost each of their last six meetings with the champions, with the visitors' most recent win coming on May 4, 2024.

Whispers predicts: Bayern Munich 4-1 Stuttgart
With Bayern the dominant team in Germany, it is easy to see why the bookmakers have priced a home win at 2/7 (1.29).
Stuttgart have scored one or fewer goals against Bayern Munich in eight of their past 12 meetings, so it makes sense to predict Under 1.5 Goals for Stuttgart at 7/20 (1.35).
Bayern have scored 10 of their last 15 goals after the interval, and it makes sense to bet for the Second Half to Have More Goals at 17/20 (1.85).
Considering the hosts scored four or more goals in 16 of their 34 Bundesliga matches last season, there could be value in backing Bayern to Score Over 3.5 Goals at 29/20 (2.45).
> Under 1.5 Goals for Stuttgart at 7/20 (1.35) | Likelihood: Probable
> Second Half to Have More Goals at 17/20 (1.85) | Likelihood: Possible
> Bayern to Score Over 3.5 Goals at 29/20 (2.45) | Likelihood: Possible
