Bayern Munich's defence of their Bundesliga crown is set to begin on Friday, when the champions take on visitors Stuttgart at Allianz Arena.

Bayern were widely predicted to win the league in 2025-26, but the nature of their win was historic, with the club breaking the record for most goals scored in a single top-flight season (122).

Stuttgart may not have won the title, but their achievement of a fourth-placed finish should not be overlooked given they qualified for the Champions League for a second time in three seasons.
That was remarkable for a club that had last competed at the top table of European football in 2009-10, and the club's turnaround in fortunes has largely been a result of boss Sebastian Hoeness.
Die Roten may not have been as prolific as Bayern last term, but their return of 71 goals in the Bundesliga was only bettered by the Bavarians, though they did concede 13 more goals.
