Bayern Munich to win -2.5 handicap

Bayern Munich have won their four home Champions League matches this season by an accumulative margin of ten goals (2.5 per match).

Bayern Munich will take on Atalanta on Wednesday, 18 March, in a UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie that should already be considered done and dusted.

The German side come into the second leg with a five-goal advantage after defeating Atalanta 6-1 in Italy last week, making this second leg nothing more than a glorified training session for Vincent Kompany's men.

As has so often been the norm by this stage of the season in the 21st century, Bayern Munich have already effectively wrapped up the Bundesliga title, which means they can put all of their attention into winning the Champions League.

Last week's incredible result in Bergamo means that they can enjoy the second leg on Wednesday night, but Kompany could use the match as an opportunity to experiment, whether that be with new players or with a new formation.

The six-time European champions were held to a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, but the match did see Harry Kane return from injury, and the England captain should start on Wednesday as he looks to add to his tally of 45 goals in all competitions this season.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Bayern Munich have only lost two of their last 17 matches against Italian opposition.

In terms of injuries, Kompany's biggest concern will be who he plays between the sticks. All three of his first-team goalkeepers are injured, meaning he could be forced into playing 16-year-old Leonard Prescott. Elsewhere, Jamal Musiala, Hiroki Ito and Alphonso Davies are all out injured while Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich are suspended.

Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano are two players likely to be benched due to the fact that they would both miss the first leg of Bayern's quarter-final if they receive one more booking.

As far as Atalanta are concerned, this is likely to be their final Champions League outing for quite some time. The Italian side have not coped well since Gian Piero Gasperini left the club for Roma in the summer and are currently seven points off the top four in Serie A.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Bayern Munich have lost just one of their last 27 Champions League home games.

Last week's humiliation has plunged Raffaele Palladino's future in doubt, despite the fact that he only took the reins in Bergamo in November after the club suffered a poor start to the season under Ivan Juric.

Pallardino's focus now will be to at least secure a Europa League spot next season, and to that end, he could field a weakened team in Munich ahead of a big match with Verona at the weekend.

Giacomo Raspadori and Yunus Musah are the only two players to have been officially ruled out, with the former out with a thigh injury and the latter suspended after hitting the yellow card threshold last week.

Whispers predicts: Bayern Munich 4-1 Atalanta

If last week is anything to go by, then Bayern Munich to win with a -2.5 handicap attached at 2/1 looks a phenomenal price. If you would rather play it marginally safer, then Bayern with a -1.5 handicap has been priced at 7/8.

Regardless of how many Bayern end up winning by, we should expect goals on Wednesday night. Over 3.5 goals has been priced at 4/5, while both teams to score has been priced at 8/15.

Harry Kane has arguably been the best striker in Europe this season, and he is priced at 8/15 to score anytime with Bet365.
