Barcelona surrendered the top spot to Real Madrid after suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Sevilla just before the international break. With a 6-1-1 win-draw-loss record, Hans-Dieter Flick’s men are second in La Liga ahead of their clash with 18th-placed Girona.
Given Girona's struggles in recent months, it is unsurprising that Barcelona are the expected winners at 2/11 (1.18). Teams with these odds usually have an 84.6% probability of winning.

Barcelona preview: Plagued by injuries
Barcelona will resume action following the international break with fresh injury concerns which could greatly weaken their resolve ahead of key upcoming matches.
Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo picked up hamstring and calf injuries, respectively. Both stars are now set to join Raphinha (hamstring), Ferran Torres (hamstring), Pablo Gavi (knee), Joan Garcia (knee), and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (back problems) in the treatment room.
With his squad now depleted due to injuries and wanting to keep pace with Real Madrid ahead of El Clasico which comes up on 25 October, Hansi Flick could deploy Lamine Yamal in the attacking midfield role to give Roony Bardghji the opportunity to operate from the right flank, while Rashford starts as striker in Lewandowski’s absence.
Predicted lineup: Szczesny (GK), Kounde, Cubarsi, Garcia, Balde, Pedri, De Jong, Bardghji, Yamal, Lopez & Rashford.
Last five matches
- Sevilla 4-1 Barcelona
- Barcelona 1-2 PSG
- Barcelona 2-1 Real Sociedad
- Real Oviedo 1-3 Barcelona
- Barcelona 3-0 Getafe
Girona preview: Eyeing their first away win
Girona, meanwhile, are not having things easy themselves on the injury front as Juan Carlos (knee), David Lopez (hamstring), and Donny van de Beek (Achilles tendon rupture) are unavailable for this game.
Ivan Martin and Alejandro Frances are also both suspended this weekend for Girona, while there are doubts surrounding the availability of Viktor Tsygankov (thigh injury), Abel Ruiz (groin issues) and Azzedine Ounahi (calf problems).
Predicted lineup: Gazzaniga (GK), Moreno, Blind, Reis, Martinez, Rincon, Witsel, Solis, Roca, Vanat & Asprilla.
Last five matches
- Girona 2-1 Valencia
- Girona 0-0 Espanyol
- Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Girona
- Girona 0-4 Levante
- Celta Vigo 1-1 Girona
Player to watch: Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal’s streak of goal contributions ended in Barcelona's 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. The 18-year-old has six goals and seven appearances in his last 10 appearances for club and country. He will fancy his chances against Girona this weekend.
