Home to win

Atalanta have won four of their last five meetings with Roma.

The Gewiss Stadium prepares for a captivating start to the new year this Saturday as Atalanta host Roma in a vital Italian Serie A encounter. The atmosphere in Bergamo is expected to be electric as the home supporters look to inspire their team to close the eight-point gap on the visitors.

Atalanta appeared to be gathering momentum with successive victories over Cagliari and Genoa, but a narrow 1–0 loss to title contenders Inter Milan last time out halted their progress and kept them outside the top eight.

That defeat also brought an end to La Dea’s four-match home winning run, and there is added cause for concern given that their last occurrence of consecutive home league losses came back in March, when a defeat to Inter was followed by another setback against capital side Lazio.

Roma, meanwhile, remain firmly in the title race as they head into 2026 just three points behind leaders Inter. However, the Giallorossi may feel they could be in an even stronger position after losing three of their last five Serie A fixtures.

Still chasing their first Scudetto since 2001, Roma closed out an otherwise impressive 2025, in which they collected more league points than any other Serie A team, with a convincing 3–1 win over Genoa.

That result came despite ongoing away struggles, as they have lost three of their last four league matches on the road, each by a single-goal margin.

Atalanta vs Roma prediction: La Dea to claim narrow win

Key statistics

  • Two of their last five meetings have ended in Atalanta winning with a 2-1 scoreline.
  • La Dea have won four of their last five encounters with the Giallorossi.
  • Four of their last five clashes have had BTTS being played.

Correct score prediction: Atalanta 2-1 Roma

We believe that the host will maintain their positive momentum against the Lupi in this game and we are predicting a 2-1 victory for Atalanta. Despite Roma possessing one of the most dangerous attacking units in the league, the Bergamo side at home often proves difficult to overcome.

Also, Atalanta have had the upper hand against Roma in several of their most recent encounters at the Gewiss Stadium and we expect them to use that edge this time. While the Rossoneri are likely to find the net, we anticipate the host to outscore them in this tight contest.

Pre-match odds and win probability: Tight contest expected

  • Home: 6/5 (2.20) – 45.5%
  • Draw: 23/10 (3.30) – 30.3%
  • Away: 23/10 (3.30) – 30.3%

Odds provided by Ladbrokes. Subject to change.

The bookmakers give Atalanta a slight edge to claim all three points, with odds of 2.20 implying a 45.5% chance of victory. Roma are rated at 3.30 (30.3%), suggesting they remain firmly in contention, while the draw is also priced at 3.30 (30.3%). The odds indicate a closely fought contest, but one where the home side are marginally favoured to come out on top.

Most recent head-to-head: Atalanta dominate record

A glance at recent head-to-head history highlights Atalanta’s clear superiority in this fixture. Across the last five competitive encounters between the two sides, the Bergamo outfit have consistently come out on top, winning four of their last five meetings.

Roma have been unable to claim a single victory in this run, managing only one draw. Their last encounter ended in a 2-0 win for Atalanta in the first leg played in 2024 and a 2-1 win for La Dea in the return leg in 2025.

Roma are set to welcome familiar face Bryan Cristante into the midfield, but options remain limited with Morocco international Neil El Aynaoui still unavailable.

At the back, centre-half Evan Ndicka is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, while captain Lorenzo Pellegrini will miss out again as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

In attack, Artem Dovbyk has recently returned from a thigh problem, though fitness concerns remain around both Evan Ferguson and Paulo Dybala.

Predicted lineup: Svilar (GK), Mancini, Ziolkowski, Hermoso, Celik, Kone, Cristante, Wesley, Soule, Dybala & Ferguson

Player to watch: Gianluca Scamacca

Gianluca Scamacca has been Atalanta’s main attacking threat in the past few weeks. The striker has scored five goals in the Serie A this season, making him very dangerous in the box.

With the absence of Ademola Lookman, who left for the 2025 Africa Nations Cup competition in Morocco, La Dea will need to rely more on Scamacca for goals and if they are to defeat Roma, he will need to be at the top of his game.
