Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (4/5): Arsenal interested in Rodrygo

After heavily relying on midfielders to score this season, Arsenal intend to strengthen their options on the flanks, having set their sights on Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, who is admired by Mikel Arteta.

The story comes The Athletic, who are one of the most reliable outlets in England.

Value (2/5): Difficult deal to materialise

Rodrygo is considered one of the best attacking talents in Europe. As such, despite his limited minutes at Santiago Bernabeu, he is expected to cost north of £80million. It is suggested that the financial parameters of any deal for the Brazilian would be challenging for the North Londoners.

Suitability (4/5): Technical and prolific

The 24-year-old winger is known for his close control and positional awareness in the final third. He likes to take on his man and move inside the pitch from wide areas to disrupt low blocks. His decision-making is equally impressive, underlined by the fact that he has been directly involved in 23 goals across all competitions.

Upgrade? (4/5): Martinelli to move to the bench

Should the Brazil international move to the Emirates, he would replace his fellow countryman Gabriel Martinelli in Mikel Arteta's starting lineup. At Real, Rodrygo mostly plays on the right flank, but his preferred position is on the left. His versatility, however, could also allow Arteta to rotate Bukayo Saka to ensure he remains fit throughout the campaign.

Logic (4/5): Platform to become a superstar

Rodrygo supposedly wants to leave Los Blancos as he feels the signings of Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham have taken away the spotlight from him. At Arsenal, there aren't many superstars, and if Rodrygo can lead them to glory, he would certainly attract plenty of headlines.

Whisper+ verdict: 18/25

Rodrygo has everything in him to take Arsenal to the next level, but the Gunners' financial predicament poses a huge obstacle.
