Authenticity (2.5/5): Arsenal eyeing Rayan move
Arsenal have reportedly joined North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Vasco da Gama forward Rayan.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim the 18-year-old has already been watched by scouts at Bayern Munich, Spurs, Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion and Fiorentina. The report also states that Arsenal scout Pablo Xavier has earmarked the teenager as a potential transfer target.
Value (4/5): Enticing release clause
Rayan is understood to have an affordable release clause in his Vasco da Gama contract in the region of £15m. That would surely be an affordable price for the Gunners, especially as they will take into account the potential profit they could make if Rayan fulfills his potential.
Suitability (3.5/5): Adriano comparisons
The TEAMtalk report suggests Rayan is a similar player to former Inter Milan and Brazil forward Adriano. However, the left-footed attacker does appear to be a little more versatile than Adriano, having previously played as a wide player, as a number 10 and as a central striker, with the latter believed to be his best position.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): Too early to tell
It's difficult to say at this early stage of Rayan's career whether he will go on to be better than Mikel Arteta's current forward options of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
The Gunners are also expected to sign a first-choice number nine this season, so Rayan would either be needed as backup or sent on loan to gain valuable experience.
Logic (3.5/5): Chance to join Premier League giants
Rayan has made 48 competitive appearances for Vasco da Gama, scoring five goals and contributing one assist. The Brazil Under-20 international will continue to gain playing opportunities with the Brazilian club, but he would surely be open to the prospect of joining a top Premier League club that could aid his development.
Whisper+ verdict: 16/25
Rayan is certainly one for the future, and Arsenal may be keen to obtain his services ahead of the Brazilian's other potential suitors. However, the Gunners have more important matters to attend to in the summer window, including the recruitment of a new striker, so they are unlikely to put too much time and resources into signing the 18-year-old.
