  • There were at least 11 corners in five of the last seven clashes between these sides.
  • Argentina are currently on a five-match unbeaten run (W4, D1).

Correct score prediction: Argentina 3-1 Venezuela

While Venezuela are unbeaten in eight home games so far, they are still hunting for their first away win of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers (D2, L6).

On the other hand, Argentina have a 6-1-1 win-draw-loss record at home. They have won four of their last five games, and three of their last four encounters with Venezuela.

Considering Venezuela's struggles on the road, we are confident that Argentina will claim all the spoils at the end of this match.

Argentina are leading the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualifying group, while Venezuela currently occupy the intercontinental playoff spot in seventh place.

Interestingly, Argentina have nothing left to play for, having already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, this is a must-win for Venezuela, as they would miss out on an automatic World Cup ticket if they drop points on Thursday night.

Ahead of this skirmish, Argentina are the expected winners at 2/9 (1.22). Teams with these odds usually have a 81.8% probability of winning.

Argentina preview: A clean bill of health

Having already qualified while staying 10 points clear of Ecuador, who occupy second spot in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualification table, Argentina will look to extend their unbeaten run when they host Venezuela in the early hours of Friday.

Midfield maestro Enzo Fernandez will not be available for this game due to suspension. The Chelsea man picked up a red card in Argentina’s last outing against Colombia.

Ever-present Emiliano Martinez, who couldn't seal a move away from Aston Villa this summer after much transfer speculation, will keep his place between the sticks for La Seleccion.

Captain Lionel Messi, who believes he could be playing his very last match for the national team in Buenos Aires, is set to lead the line alongside Lautaro Martinez and Thiago Almada.

Predicted lineup: Martinez (GK), Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico, De Paul, Mac Allister, Paredes, Messi, Martinez & Almada.

Last five matches

  • Argentina 1-1 Colombia
  • Chile 0-1 Argentina
  • Argentina 4-0 Brazil
  • Uruguay 0-1 Argentina
  • Argentina 1-0 Peru

Venezuela preview: Eyeing their first away win

Despite their efforts over the years, Venezuela are yet to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Currently in the intercontinental playoff spot, and four points behind sixth-placed Colombia, who have a must-win contest against Bolivia, La Vinotinto’s dream to qualify outside the playoffs looks very challenging.

It will be difficult for Venezuela to take anything from this clash, but given that they held Argentina to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture, they could fancy their chances of not going back empty-handed from Buenos Aires.

Jose Contreras remains injured for the visitors, which means Universidad Catolica del Ecuador shot-stopper Rafael Romo should keep his place between the sticks for Fernando Batista’s side in a relatively unchanged starting XI from last time.

Predicted lineup: Romo (GK), Navarro, Angel, Ferraresi, Aramburu, Martinez, Casseres, Soteldo, Herrera, Morales & Rondon.

Last five matches

  • Uruguay 2-0 Venezuela
  • Venezuela 2-0 Bolivia
  • Venezuela 1-0 Peru
  • Ecuador 2-1 Venezuela
  • USA 3-1 Venezuela
