Ajax vs PSG Women lineups and latest team news

Ajax Women

Ajax opened the new season with a defeat in the Dutch Super Cup but since then 8 wins and 1 draw had been registered in all competitions.

Ajax cruised past 2 playoff rounds to reach the group stage. They beat Dinamo Bucharest and after that Zurich, with clean sheets kept in all 3 playoff games.

Ajax returned to the group stage for the first time since 2020 and this year they have a team that is tipped to achieve big things.

All the players in the squad, apart from the 16-year-old American wonderkid Yohannes, are Dutch players and just like the men’s team Ajax are trying to develop a brand and style of play that makes them unique in this year’s Champions League. Ajax like to keep the ball on the ground and they use lots of one-twos and work in groups of 3-4 players all the time.

Winger Tromp is the only player in the treatment room right now. She is used sporadically even when fit.

Predicted Lineup – Van Eijk (GK), N. Noordam, Spitse, Kardinaal, Weerden, Van Gool, Sabajo, D. Noordman, Grant, Leuchter & Hoekstra

PSG Women

PSG had to work hard to reach the group stage. They eliminated Man Utd in the playoffs after a 1-1 draw in England was followed by a 3-1 home win. In both, those matches showed defensive vulnerability and an inability to break down teams that sit deep and defend.

PSG have also shown some shaky football domestically. The 4 of their first 5 league games but lost 0-1 at home vs Lyon in the only match that was against a tough opponent.

Important centre-back Dudek is yet to play this season due to an injury. Holding midfielder Ana Vitoria is also injured right now. This is part of the reason why PSG looked shaky at the back in several games now.

Strikers Martens and Thorvalsdottir also nurse injuries but in attack PSG have lots of quality options even without them.

Predicted Lineup – Picaud (GK), Le Guilly, Hunt, Samoura, Karchaoui, Groenen, Albert, Baltimore, Geyoro, Chawinga & Vansgaard

Player to Watch: Romee Leuchter

Ajax’s young striker Romee Leuchter is only 22 years old and yet she’s been sensational for her team for over 2 years now. Leuchter had 25 goals in 23 appearances for Ajax in 2021/22. Last season she scored 17 goals in 17 appearances.

This year things are much better than that even with Leuchter already scoring 7 goals in 6 league outings and adding 7 more in the 3 playoff matches Ajax played.
