Eintracht Frankfurt to win

Thursday's hosts are unbeaten at home in the Europa League this season, picking up three wins and a draw.

Eintracht Frankfurt claimed a 2-1 win in the Netherlands last week but still have to get the job done at home against Ajax on Thursday evening if they are to progress into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Ajax prediction: A home win expected?

Key Stats

  • Ajax have lost five of their last seven outings in the Europa League.
  • Five of Frankfurt's nine matches in the Europa League this season have produced over 2.5 goals.
  • Ten of Ajax's 17 games in the Europa League, including qualifiers, have produced over 2.5 goals.

Correct score prediction: Frankfurt 2-1 Ajax

Frankfurt have scored at least two goals in six of their nine European games this season and Ajax have only failed to score in three of their 17 outings in the Europa League, which is why we're backing the German hosts to claim another 2-1 win over their Dutch guests this Thursday.

Most recent H2Hs: Frankfurt lead

Last week's first-leg win means that Frankfurt officially lead the H2H record between these two clubs as their only previous encounter, which Ajax won, was a pre-season friendly back in 2020.

Frankfurt preview: One foot in the quarter-finals

The first leg against Ajax in Amsterdam last week didn't start well for Eintracht Frankfurt as their hosts took the lead after just ten minutes.

However, Ajax lost their goalkeeper Remko Pasveer to injury in the 24th minute and just three minutes later, Hugo Larsson equalised for the Bundesliga side. There was only one goal in the second half and it went the way of Frankfurt in the 70th minute via their 29-year-old midfielder Ellyes Skhiri.

Igor Matanovic, Aurele Amenda and Timothy Chandler make up the three main injury concerns for Frankfurt this Thursday.

Predicted lineup: Trapp (GK), Kristensen, Tuta, Theate, Collins, Gotze, Skhiri, Larsson, Knauff, Ekitike & Bahoya

Ajax preview: Have it all to do in Germany

Ajax will have been disappointed not to have made more from their bright start against Frankfurt last week.

Brian Brobbey fired the Dutch club in front in the 10th minute but losing their first-choice goalkeeper to injury in the 24th minute seemed to unsettle the home side.

Ajax have it all to do in Germany this week but look set to be without the likes of Remko Pasveer, Christian Rasmussen, Wout Weghorst and Youri Regeer due to injury.

Predicted lineup: Matheus (GK), Sutalo, Baas, Gaaei, Hato, Mokio, Henderson, Taylor, Traore, Brobbey & Godts

Player to watch: Hugo Larsson

Frankfurt signed Hugo Larsson from Malmo in 2023 and the young Swedish midfielder has adapted well to life in Germany.

Larsson, who is still only 20-years-old, has scored three goals from midfield in the Europa League for Frankfurt this season and is now only one goal behind the departed Omar Marmoush.

The Frankfurt midfielder continues to impress

The talented midfielder scored Frankfurt's equalising goal in the Netherlands last week and we're backing the former Malmo star to put in another impressive display against Ajax on Thursday evening.
