DC United

DC extended their unbeaten run to 4 on Wednesday but they failed to win again. Recorded the third consecutive draw with the recently signed Pirani scoring his first goal for the club late on to deliver the point.

DC remain in the play-in ninth spot but they are really struggling to score goals lately and are exposed to overtaking as the regular season winds down. Failed to score in 4 of the last 7 rounds and only once in those 7 games scored more than one goal.

At least, defensively remain solid with only one goal conceded in their last four matches.

The main goalie Miller remains sidelined. This seems to have no impact though as Bono is doing well and in the 4 recent games he started, he’s been very solid. There are further issues in defence though. The main left-back Jeahze is out for the season. Also, the team’s captain Birnbaum and the veteran Williams, both important centre-backs, are considered doubtful as both missed multiple games recently.

Predicted Lineup:

Bono (GK), Najar, Pines, Hines-Ike, Davis, Canouse, Klich, Durkin, Pirani, Robertha & Benteke

New York RB

New York RB continued to struggle in midweek when they managed only a 1-1 home draw vs Austin. Played a decent game and created enough chances to win but in the end, the inability to hit the target proved costly.

Running out of time to make a push towards the top 9 positions and the coming match is seen as a must-win.

Red Bull are without a win in 5 though (D2 L3) and they have been very shaky defensively all season. NYRB have allowed the second most goals from set pieces in the entire Conference.

Key playmaker Lewis Morgan is bitterly missed but he will sit out the rest of the season after sustaining a nasty injury. At least the defence should be boosted for this trip with Harper returning from suspension. Also, Reyes is hopeful to be over a minor knock and start.

Predicted Lineup:

Coronel (GK), Harper, Reyes, Nealis, Tolkin, Edelman, Amaya, Fernandez, Luquinhas, Vanzeir & Manoel

Player to Watch: Christian Benteke

DC United’s top goalscorer Christian Benteke has gone quiet lately. The service coming his way hasn’t been good and this is the main reason why he hasn’t scored in 11 of his last 12 MLS starts. Still, the vast majority of Benteke’s goals this season have been scored on home turf and now when DC need those most we expect the Belgian to answer the call and deliver.
