New York RB – Austin preview: latest form, news, and potential lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted New York RB vs Austin lineups.

New York RB

New York RB stopped the bleeding with an uninspiring 0-0 draw in the Hudson River Derby vs NYFC. This was the first point for the Red Bull in their last 4 matches. The draw was hardly enough as it left the team 5 points outside the playoff positions with only 5 games left to play.

It’s now or never for Red Bull now and only a series of wins could help them so they will be ready to take extra risks.

Key playmaker Lewis Morgan is bitterly missed but he will sit out the rest of the season after sustaining a nasty injury. Another key player is defender Reyes. He could be absent too after being stretched off on Saturday during the derby. At least captain Nealis is back after a ban and he should cover for Reyes.

Predicted Lineup:

Coronel (GK), Harper, Ndam, Nealis, Tolkin, Edelman, Amaya, Fernandez, Luquinhas, Vanzeir & Manoel

Austin

Austin dropped out of the play-in positions on Sunday after losing 1-2 at home vs Portland. Once again had issues creating chances and only after the result was already 0-2 did Driussi and Rigoni came to life. Lately, those have been the only two constant contributors up front.

Austin played in the MLS final last year but they are now in danger of not even making the play-in. The confidence is low with Austin earning just 1 point from their 5 matches since the summer break.

An important forced change will take place in defence of this long journey north. The team’s best centre-back Cascante misses suspended. This could see recently signed Hedges making an appearance.

Another key defender that will miss is the injured left-back Kolmanic. This forces winger Gallagher to play in a much deeper role than what he is used to.

Predicted Lineup:

Stuver (GK), Lima, Hedges, Vaisanen, Gallagher, Ring, Pereira, Rigoni, Driussi, Finlay & Zardes

Player to Watch: Sebastian Driussi

Austin reached the MLS final last season thanks to Driussi’s 22 goals. The Argentine has been injured a lot this term but when fit he’s been contributing often. Driussi scored 3 of his team’s last 5 goals and right now all eyes are on him to deliver.

Driussi likes the spotlights and with every remaining match for Austin having the feel of a playoff encounter we can see Driussi coming to life and continuing to score goals with great regularity
