Philadelphia Union to Win
Philly were unfortunate to lose the MLS Cup final last year to Los Angeles and now, coach Jim Curtin’s boys are on a quest to make things right. To do so, they’ll first have to go through New York Red Bulls.
The bookies pick the Bulls as the favorites to win the game at Red Bull Arena although we have no idea why that is. As we said, the visitors reached the final, they did great in the CONCACAF Champions League, and have a magnificent head-to-head advantage over New York Red Bulls. After all, the Bulls won only one of the last 10 games while Philly got five victories. The remaining four games were draws.
Under 2.5 Goals
Despite being considered the Bulls’ nightmare in MLS, Philadelphia Union rarely manage to crush New York Red Bulls with a two-goal margin or higher. Six back-to-back games between the two clubs ended with under 2.5 goals and seeing as our tip has a 58.7% chance of success, according to the bookies, we think that Sunday’s brawl at Red Bull Arena will be a rather dull 90 minutes.
An additional boost to our New York Red Bulls vs Philadelphia Union prediction is the fact that 90% of the Bulls’ games this season ended with under 2.5 goals. The only one that didn’t was New York Red Bulls’ 2-1 win over the Crew on the 19th of March.

New York Red Bulls odds: +112 – 44.0%
Draw odds: +245 – 28.0%
Philadelphia Union odds: +245 – 28.0%
Is it really a surprise that our Under 2.5 goals prediction has a 58.7% chance of success at -142? The last five head-to-heads ended with very few goals so we expect an even game at Red Bull Arena. New York Red Bulls are the expected winners as coach Gerhard Struber’s boys have a 44.0% win probability but we fancy the visitors’ odds which stand at +245.
New York Red Bulls vs Philadelphia Union Lineups & Team News
New York Red Bulls
Despite having a sensible advantage over Chicago Fire last week, New York Red Bulls not only had issues finding the net but they were close to completely losing points as the result up until the 89th minute of the game was 1-0 in favor of the home team. Thank God it was Cory Burke’s 89th-minute stunner to bring New York Red Bulls a point at Soldier Field.
Predicted lineup – Coronel (GK), Nealis, Tolkin, Reyes, Harper, Edelman, Casseres, Duncan, Fernandez, Burke & Manoel
Philadelphia Union
With three victories, two draws, and four losses this season, Philadelphia Union’s performance borders on poor. Sure, coach Jim Curtin’s boys have a postponed game yet to be played but we don’t think 10th place suits a team with such stature.
Predicted lineup – Blake (GK), Wagner, Glesnes, Elliott, Harriel, McGlynn, Martinez, Bedoya, Gazdag, Uhre & Carranza

Player to Watch: Daniel Gazdag
Not only did Philadelphia Union lose a magnificent chance to become MLS champs last year but Daniel Gazdag was denied a prestigious individual award as well. He was the frontrunner for the 2022 MLS top goalscorer award with 24 goals in 37 games but Austin’s Sebastian Driussi swooped in at the last possible moment to steal the award from his hands.
However, we still think Daniel Gazdag has the required arsenal to be a difference-maker for coach Jim Curtin and we hope to see him leading Philly’s attack on Sunday.
