DC United

Once again struggled to get going when hosting Charlotte on Saturday. In the end drew 0-0 but the forward actions were very disappointing. Right now struggles for goals and failed to score in 4 of the last 6 rounds.

This is why DC are on the verge of missing out on the play-in tournament even with Rooney’s men achieving just 3 wins in their last 12 league games (D3 L6).

There are some serious problems in defence for this match. The main goalie Miller is sidelined and Bono will have to start between the sticks. Also, captain Birnbaum and Williams, both influential centre-backs, nurse injuries and there is a real danger that both will be absent. Already, missing the main left-back Jeahze and the recently signed Davis is used on the opposite flank because of that.

Predicted Lineup:

Bono (GK), Najar, Pines, Hines-Ike, Davis, Canouse, Klich, Robertha, Pirani, Dajome & Benteke

Atlanta

Atlanta trashed Messi-less Inter Miami on Saturday 5-2. Once again, impressive team effort in attack brought a big win with Atlanta well positioned in the play-off spots and gathering a nice pace.

Scored 14 goals in the last 5 rounds and continue to have the best-attacking efficiency in the entire MLS from mid-June onward.

The gaffer tends to rotate when there are midweek matches and this could happen again. Wolff and Lobjanidze hope to be picked from the off this time around. There could also be a debut for recently signed forward Thiare. The only player set to miss injured is veteran Alonso but Atlanta are stuffed with options in midfield even without him.

Predicted Lineup:

Guzan (GK), Lennon, Purata, Robinson, Willey, Rossetto, Muyumba, Lobjanidze, Almada, Wolff, Giakoumakis

Player to Watch: Saba Lobjanidze

Atlanta’s recent signing Saba Lobjanidze is expected to make just his second start since joining the club. Lobjanidze only played 30 minutes on Saturday and yet he produced 2 assists and also rattled the crossbar.

Lobjanidze already scored his first MLS goal and in 1 start and 3 appearances off the bench, he already amassed 1 goal, 3 assists and 7 big chance involvements. Now Lobjanidze will be pumped up to shine when trusted from the off and we can see him getting involved in Atlanta’s goals.
