Complete USMNT World Cup squad for Qatar 2022

It’s hard to think about a past USMNT roster that is more well-rounded than the one we will see in Qatar this year. Here’s a list of the players that we will see playing for the US national team in the World Cup.

USMNT roster with surprise goalkeeping picks

The US goalkeepers that we will see in Qatar are certainly interesting.

  • Matt Turner
  • Ethan Horvath
  • Sean Johnson

That’s correct. There’s no Zack Steffen on the list. He was the goalkeeper that coach Greg Berhalter relied on the most but, sadly, he didn’t find a place in this USMNT World Cup squad. We’re going to see Arsenal’s substitute goalkeeper Matt Turner in Qatar 2022. He had an injury not long ago but it seems that he’s now fit and ready for battle.

This USMNT World Cup squad is packed with top defenders

If there’s one thing that coach Greg Berhalter is going to rely on the most in this World Cup it’s the defense. It’s absolutely packed with quality:

  • Sergino Dest
  • Antonee Robinson
  • DeAndre Yedlin
  • Joe Scally
  • Shaq Moore
  • Walker Zimmerman (captain)
  • Aaron Long
  • Cameron Carter-Vickers
  • Tim Ream

Tim Ream is definitely a surprise as the 35-year-old hasn’t played a single game for the US team since September 2021. Nevertheless, Fulham’s captain has been in top form in the English Premier League and we expect him to form a good partnership with the US captain Walker Zimmerman. The right-back and left-back positions will probably be handed to Antonee Robinson and Sergino Dest as this is really an easy decision for Greg Berhalter.

USMNT roster with a solid midfield for Qatar 2022

The midfielders and wingers are the ones that are the most expensive on this USMNT World Cup squad. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna quickly come to mind. Here’s the full list of midfielders and wingers that we will see playing for the US in Qatar 2022:

  • Tyler Adams
  • Weston McKennie
  • Yunus Musah
  • Luca de la Torre
  • Kellyn Acosta
  • Christian Rodan
  • Christian Pulisic
  • Gio Reyna
  • Brenden Aaronson
  • Jordan Morris

The US national team is going to count on some solid performances by the youngster Giovanni Reyna and the now-established Christian Pulisic. They are the most expensive players on the USMNT roster and the pressure to score goals and give assists in the attacking midfield will be huge. Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and Brenden Aaronson will have to boss the midfield for the team to qualify for the next round but all three of them certainly showed top form for their clubs Nottingham Forrest, Juventus, and Leeds.

USMNT World Cup squad – attackers and starting XI

Sadly, the attacking position is not the best one for the US team as coach Gregg Berhalter will be able to count on the following players:

  • Timothy Weah
  • Josh Sargent
  • Jesus Ferreira
  • Haji Wright

Josh Sargent looks like a first pick for the attack as he is in top form for Norwich this season having scored nine goals in 19 games with Timothy Weah looking like a great substitute. Regardless, coach Gregg Berhalter’s starting XI is looking very solid and we expect to see the following players start for the US against Wales on the 21st of November:

  • GK – Matt Turner
  • RB – Sergino Dest
  • CB – Tim Ream
  • CB – Walker Zimmerman
  • LB – Antonee Robinson
  • MF – Weston McKennie
  • DMF – Tyler Adams
  • AMF – Gio Reyna
  • AMF – Christian Pulisic
  • AMF – Brenden Aaronson
  • ST – Josh Sargent
