The MLS SuperDraft 2024 is wrapped, the teams have had their turns picking new players to boost their squads ahead of the 2024 Major League Soccer campaign, and it is up to us to analyze the key deals. As usual, the teams were eager to sign fresh blood, as the 2023 MLS race was indeed a tiresome one. No team had absolutely no weak link.
Inter Miami’s notorious defense cost them a place in the final series. 2023 MLS champions Los Angeles counted way too much on Denis Bouanga’s finishing and paid a hefty price. The Major League Soccer champions? Columbus Crew won it last year, but there were definitely plenty of errors at the back that coach Nancy should take a look at sooner or later.
And it’s not those teams. Everyone has had his issues, but we are sure that now that the MLS SuperDraft is wrapped, the managers are feeling optimistic ahead of the start of the season. Let’s see what the key deals look like.

What is the MLS SuperDraft 2024?
For the very few of you who are unaware of what the SuperDraft actually is, you should know that the MLS SuperDraft is a sports draft in which MLS teams get to select players, with whom they believe they can achieve their goals. MLS teams get to pick between amateur players who have their entire careers ahead of them, so the draft is definitely a great way for teams to not only boost their squads but also make a solid profit, in the long run, should the player they have signed prove to be a valuable asset.
The MLS SuperDraft 2024 was the 25th edition of the draft itself. It took place on the 19th of December and we saw 87 selections in three rounds. We saw the MLS SuperDraft 2024 with the help of the MLS Season Pass streaming service, and we have to say, there were some surprising deals. Check them out.
MLS SuperDraft 2024 wrapped – key deals & signings

During the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, we had a total of 389 eligible players for the teams to pick from. Of course, not all were drafted, but we did see some nice deals in December.
- Miguel Berry to LA Galaxy
- Wayne Frederick to Colorado Rapids
- Luke Prutter to Columbus Crew
- Leo Afonso to Inter Miami
- Tyrese Spicer to Toronto
- Nate Jones to Colorado Rapids
The following deals are the ones that we will monitor closely over the course of the season, as we believe these players have the required arsenal to get the job done. Is Nate Jones going to prove Atlanta United wrong for trading him to Colorado Rapids? Is Berry going to be a suitable replacement for Mexican superstar Chicharito?
Top MLS SuperDraft 2024 deals analyzed
As you can see, we have Miguel Berry at the top of the list. LA Galaxy and Atlanta United’s bargain included Miguel Berry’s rights in return for the #33 overall pick (in the second round) in the MLS SuperDraft 2024. Berry is a 26-year-old striker. Seeing as Chicharito and Douglas Costa left the club, we are sure that Miguel Berry will have his chance to prove his worth.

Wayne Frederick to Colorado Rapids was another one of the more interesting drafts we got to see. The Rapids were eager to sign young Frederick, as they desperately need to get their attack in order if they want to be up to par this season. Wayne is 19 years old and is equally adept at playing on the wing and the center of the attack.
Aspiring goalkeeper Luke Prutter’s name was also featured in the MLS SuperDraft 2024. As we mentioned earlier, the Crew have had their issues at the back last season. Having an up-and-coming 19-year-old goalkeeper could be huge for coach Nancy.
Undoubtedly, the luckiest player of them all is Leo Afonso. The 20-year-old Brazilian striker was scooped up by the Herons and will now have the high honor of playing alongside the likes of international soccer legends Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
After the dreadful season that the 2023 MLS campaign surely was for Toronto, the team definitely needed boosting. 23-year-old Tyrese Spicer’s signature is definitely a step in the right direction for the club. He has the potential to bring consistency at the center of the pitch should he get regular minutes among the starters.
Last, but certainly not least, we have another trade deal that we’d like to turn your attention to. Nate Jones was arguably the best defensive pick this year and Colorado Rapids managed to scoop him up on a nice deal with Atlanta United who deemed his talent not enough.
That’s the MLS SuperDraft 2024 wrapped for you. There were plenty of more deals that happened, but these are the ones that caught our eye. We’ll have to wait and see if these players can bring glory to their clubs.
