Villarreal CF is a Spanish football club which plays in the La Liga and is one of the better-known ones, but they are not as famous as Barcelona or Real Madrid. When it comes to domestic titles, their records are a runner-up in the La Liga during the 2007/2008 season. Their best performance in European competitions was during the 2005/2006 season when they finished as a semi-finalist in the UEFA Champions League. They were also semi-finalists three times in the Europa League tournament over the 21st century. Their head coach is Unai Emery, and with his help, they finished 5th in the 2019/2020 La Liga. They have often been described as a small but successful club, and their main rival in La Liga is Valencia.

Notable Villareal transfers and news throughout the history

We mentioned some of the notable transfers to and from the Spanish club below. More gossips and transfer rumours you will find at the bottom of the page. Although we can't mention all of them, we think that the following players piqued our Villarreal interest either with their performance for the club or with the transfer sum spent or received for them.

Although Paco Alcácer came up in Villarreal's rival team Valencia, in 2019/2020, he transferred to the club from Borussia Dortmund for the sum of £23 million. Even though he hasn't been on the team for very long, he already has twenty-two appearances and nine goals. He became the club's most expensive transfer in the team's history, and he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract.

Cédric Bakambu is a French forward and a top-rated and successful player. In his senior career, he has 277 appearances and 118 scored goals, and for Villarreal, he appeared in seventy-five matches and scored thirty-two goals for the three seasons he was there between 2015 and 2018. The Chinese team Beijing Guoan paid the player's £40 million release clause and got him. Villarreal got a hefty sum from him and his time in the club paid off because they got him for only £7.50 million from Bursaspor in 2015.

Pablo Fornals‘s first youth team was Villarreal in 2003, and he played for them until 2008. His senior career was mostly in Malaga, but in 2017 he paid his release clause of £12 million and switched to Villarreal. In 2019 West Ham snatched him for £28 million, and until this day, he is one of the most expensive transfer departures in Villarreal history.

Gerard Moreno plays as a striker, and he is a prevalent and successful name in Spanish football. He spent most of his senior career in Villarreal, starting in the reserve teams between 2010 and 2012. In 2013 Moreno officially joined the A-team before he was loaned to Mallorca for one season and then moved to Espanyol. In 2018 he returned to Villarreal for £20 million, and since then, he made seventy-seven appearances and scored thirty goals. In the past, before he was loaned out and before he moved to Espanyol, he made 108 appearances for Villarreal and scored fifty-seven goals.
