Man City: Latest Transfer Rumours

Football Whispers has scoured the internet to bring you each and every transfer rumour about Manchester City, regarding both incomings and outgoings. FW has added a rumour rating for every potential deal, with 1/5 representing a transfer that is not likely to occur, and 5/5 representing a deal that is 99% complete.

Manchester City

Man City monitoring young duo

The Manchester Evening News claims that Manchester City are chasing Leeds teenager Archie Gray and Benfica youngster Enzo Fernandez.

16-year-old Gray caught the eye in Leeds’ pre-season friendlies, and was named on the substitute bench by manager Jessie Marsch for the club’s opening day Premier League meeting with Wolves. Despite not getting on the pitch, it was a huge day for the youngster, and looks set to be the first of many important milestones for Leeds.

The attacking midfielder was expected to be handed his first-team debut in the recent Carabao Cup meeting with Barnsley, but was not risked by Marsch having picked up a virus in the days leading up to the match.

Gray has, however, played twice for the club in the Premier League 2, playing 152 minutes in wins over Derby and Aston Villa.

He is an England under-17 international, and is highly thought of by all associated with Leeds. Such sentiment is shared by City, who could make a move for the teenager in the near future.

City have already taken one of Leeds’ star players in Kalvin Phillips, who moved to Manchester earlier this summer.

The Manchester outfit are also keeping tabs on Benfica central midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with the Premier League side planning to buy the 21-year-old in 2023.

Fernandez has played every minute of Benfica’s seven matches this season, scoring three times. Two of those strikes came in Champions League qualifying against Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in each leg, with the club then defeating Dynamo Kyiv to reach the group stages.

Benfica have been handed a tough challenge in Group H of the Champions League for their efforts, with the Portuguese side set to meet PSG, Juventus and Maccabi Haifa in the months to come.

Fernandez looks set to be a key player for that tough European journey. In league action, he has played in the three matches so far, scoring in the opener against Arouca.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also reportedly showing an interest in the Benfica youngster, with several other clubs reportedly keen on his signature. He has previously played for River Plate and Defensa y Justicia in his native Argentina, and was called up to the Argentina national team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Uruguay.

The Argentina under-18 player didn’t feature in either game, but could make his breakthrough for this national team very shortly. The South American side will face Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland in Qatar.

Manchester City

Guardiola to be given £100m January budget

Man City boss Pep Guardiola is set to be handed a £100m January transfer budget to spend on players that impress him in the 2022 World Cup, according to Yahoo.

The Manchester outfit have raised funds through the selling of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.

City have brought in the likes of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Sergio Gomez this summer, but these players could be joined by a handful of others in January.

Plenty of the world’s best players will be on show in Qatar this winter, with the Premier League taking a break as the majority of its stars head to play in the tournament. It kicks off on 20 November, finishing on 18 December, in what will be the first-ever winter World Cup.

Summer arrival Haaland has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in England, with the 22-year-old scoring six goals in his first four league games. That includes a hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace.

City will most certainly be interested in any player that can have a similar impact as Haaland has had. The Manchester outfit are currently joint second in the current Premier League standings, with three wins and one draw from their opening four matches.

Signing players immediately after a successful World Cup is certainly not uncommon, with Real Madrid snapping up Argentina winger Angel Di Maria from Benfica after his fine displays in South Africa in 2010.
West Ham also turned to Argentina in 2006 to bring in both Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano from Corinthians, while four years prior, Arsenal brought in Gilberto Silva from Atletico Mineiro after Brazil’s successful 2002 World Cup.

Man City

Xavi not giving up on Silva

Barcelona manager Xavi has refused to give up hope on bringing Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva to Camp Nou, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Silva looked destined to leave earlier this month, having been forced to watch his teammates from the bench in the opening two league matches of the new season, with the midfielder being handed just 37 minutes in total against West Ham and Bournemouth.

But times have quickly changed, with Pep Guardiola starting Silva in the matches against Newcastle and Crystal Palace. Not only did the Portugal international play 90 minutes in both games, but he found the back of the net on both occasions, as well as grabbing an assist against the Magpies.

The City legend showcased his abilities up front to Xavi and Barcelona supporters in the recent friendly between the two sides, with Silva starting the 3-3 draw at Camp Nou.

Silva has reportedly been a long-term target for Barcelona, but manager Xavi says the Spanish side will need to move on other players if they are able to bring the midfielder to La Liga.

“You never lose hope, but it's difficult,” said Xavi. “It's complicated. We’re only a few days away. We must have players leaving too.”

The Spanish side have recently turned to the Premier League to strengthen their side through the likes of Leeds winger Raphinha and Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

Barcelona have midfielders such as Sergio Busquets, Franck Kessie, Gavi and Pedri to rely upon in the middle of the pitch, while Frenkie de Jong is seemingly still an important part of Xavi’s plans, despite heavy interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea.

Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite and Miralem Pjanic could be involved in exits this summer as Xavi aims to create space for Silva.

Last Week's Man City Transfer Rumours

Manchester City

City reject £68m PSG move for Silva

Manchester City have rejected a £68m for Bernardo Silva from Paris Saint-Germain, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

With the transfer window drawing to a close, it remains to be seen where Silva will be playing his football this season, but manager Pep Guardiola has recently reiterated his feelings towards the player, hoping that he will stay at the Etihad.

Speaking ahead of the weekend encounter with Newcastle, City boss Guardiola said: “He knows our wishes as a club, me as a manager and even his mates. What is going to happen? I don’t know.”

The talented Portuguese came through the youth ranks at Benfica, before making a switch to Monaco in 2014, initially on loan. City then came calling in 2017, and the midfielder has gone on to represent the club over 250 times.

But Silva has certainly not been favoured this season, playing just 37 minutes in City’s first two league matches of the new campaign. Just 12 arrived in the opener against West Ham, with 25 coming against Bournemouth.

That all changed, however, in Sunday’s draw with Newcastle, with Silva playing the full game at St James’ Park, where he scored and got an assist in the 3-3 stalemate.

His place in the squad remains uncertain following the arrival of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds, as well as the fact that the club boasts a hugely impressive midfield roster. Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri are seemingly Pep’s favoured three for the new campaign, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish also able to occupy a role in the middle.

PSG are certainly managing without Silva, with the Paris outfit thrashing Lille 7-1 at the weekend. The French side let former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum leave on loan for Roma earlier this summer, but still have the likes of Marco Verratti, Vitinha, Danilo Pereira, Leandro Paredes and summer arrival Renato Sanches to rely on in midfield.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

City to offer Silva new deal

The Daily Star claims Manchester City will offer midfielder Bernardo Silva a new deal, in a bid to fend off interest from the likes of PSG and Barcelona.

As mentioned, French giants PSG are reportedly making their move for the 28-year-old, with Barcelona also eyeing his situation at the Etihad. But Guardiola is certain that the midfielder remains a key player to his operation, and wants the powers that be to reward Silva with a new deal.

This will reportedly come in the form of doubling his current £150,000-a-week contract, which still has three years left. The new deal would see him move behind Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland as the club’s highest-paid players.

Despite limited playing time this season compared to other campaigns, Silva remains an important part of Guardiola’s long-term plans. He will most certainly be utilised more often when European football gets underway next month.

The Man City boss was recently handed a huge boost regarding Barcelona’s supposed interest in the Portugal international, with the Catalan outfit failing to register new signing Jules Kounde in time for their second La Liga match, which was a trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday. It more than likely means a move for Silva is off the cards, with Barcelona seemingly involved in financial difficulties behind the scenes.

The La Liga giants only just managed to register the likes of Raphinha, Roberto Lewandowksi, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie in time for the new season, but Kounde remains unregistered two games in.
Silva certainly came to life when handed his first start of the new Premier League campaign, scoring and assisting in Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle. He certainly proved his worth to manager Guardiola, but whether it was enough to convince the Spaniard to start him week in, week out remains to be seen.

Manchester City

Guardiola essentially rules out further signings

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has essentially ruled out any further signings this summer, as reported by 90min.

When asked if City were finished in the transfer window, Guardiola replied: “Apparently yes. But if someone moves or if there’s a problem that we don't expect, it will maybe happen. But apparently.”

The Manchester outfit have been busy in both aspects of the summer transfer window, with the arrival of Erling Haaland undoubtedly the most significant move. The Norwegian has three goals from his first three Premier League games for the club.

But fellow forward Julian Alvarez has also joined after his loan spell at River Plate, with the Argentinian impressing in his limited time on the pitch so far. The 22-year-old scored in the Community Shield meeting with Liverpool last month.

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips has also arrived from Leeds, but has played just one minute for his new club so far this season. Another summer arrival involves Spaniard Sergio Gomez, with the left-back joining from Belgian side Anderlecht.

As for outgoings, both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have left for Arsenal, with Raheem Sterling making a switch to Chelsea. Club legend Fernandinho has also left on a free transfer.

City had made the perfect start to the new Premier League campaign with wins against West Ham and Bournemouth, but Sunday’s draw with Newcastle has slightly set them back on this season’s title charge. The Manchester outfit now sit joint-second in the table with seven points from their three matches.

Their goal difference does, however, keep them ahead of Leeds, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.

It remains to be seen whether Guardiola decides he needs further recruits in a bid to keep the pace with Arsenal, who have started the new campaign in fine fashion with three wins from three. Former City players Jesus and Zinchenko have been key to this fantastic start.

Moreover, Guardiola has also lost defender Nathan Ake to injury, with the Dutch international lasting just 21 minutes in the draw with Newcastle, picking up a groin injury in the early stages of the game.

Previous Man City Transfer Rumours

Manchester City

Man City monitoring Arsenal’s Tierney

The Daily Mail claims that Man City are among a number of clubs who are monitoring Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.

The reported interest comes despite City closing in on a move for Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez, who Pep Guardiola has confirmed will stay and be a part of his squad, amid reports linking him with an immediate loan move. Many reports had suggested that the £11m signing could move to city sister club Girona.

Despite his impending arrival, the Manchester outfit remain interested in Tierney, having earlier this summer sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Gunners. The Ukrainian has hit the ground running at Arsenal, and is already a fan favourite thanks to his top displays in the club’s winning start to the new season.

Tierney has struggled massively with injuries since joining the Gunners from Scottish giants Celtic, most recently missing the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. But he has slowly returned to action, playing seven minutes in the opener against Crystal Palace, and 13 minutes in Saturday’s win over Leicester. Both appearances came from the bench, with Tierney seeing Zinchenko come in and take over his somewhat previously secure starting role at the club.

A seemingly strong relationship has been formed between City and Arsenal in recent years, with Mikel Arteta becoming Arsenal manager after a coaching spell under Guardiola at the Etihad. And that relationship has been further strengthened this summer after the transfers of Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester to north London.

Arsenal have let fellow left-back Nuno Tavares leave on loan to Marseille, and so will more than likely be keen to keep hold of Tierney to remain as strong as possible in that position. Midfielder Granit Xhaka has been forced to fill in at left-back at times under Arteta.

Manchester City

Guardiola uncertain on Silva future

Man City boss Pep Guardiola is in the dark about the future of midfielder Bernardo Silva, as reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal international has been strongly linked with an exit from the Etihad this summer, with La Liga outfit Barcelona reportedly keen on his services.

“I want Bernardo at Man City, 100%,” said Guardiola. “He’s special. I don’t know what will happen, but he knows how much we like him and want him, how much we love him.

“But I don’t know what is going to happen,” added Guardiola.

Silva joined City from Ligue 1 side Monaco in 2017, and has gone on to make 252 appearances. The midfielder has scored 48 goals and made 50 assists in that time, having lifted four Premier League titles and an FA Cup.

But he has undoubtedly slipped down the midfield pecking order at City in recent times, with Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan seemingly Guardiola’s preferred midfield three this season. And that is without the injured Kalvin Phillips, who has joined this summer from Leeds.

The likes of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have also been used in the manager’s midfield at times. Silva has been given just 37 total minutes in City’s first two league games this season, playing 12 minutes in the first game against West Ham, and 25 minutes in the second fixture against Bournemouth.

Barcelona are the club reportedly leading the chase for Silva, despite their problems off the pitch regarding transfers. But their major worries were put to rest over the weekend, with the Spanish side registering four of their new signings in time for the league opener against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, which they drew 0-0.

The future of Frenkie de Jong also remains up in the air, with City’s rivals Chelsea reportedly not giving up on his signature this summer. If the Dutch international does leave Camp Nou, it could ignite a move from Barcelona for Silva, with manager Xavi reportedly a huge admirer of the 28-year-old.

FW rumour rating: 5/5

Kabore heading for Marseille loan

Fabrizio Romano reports that a deal has been reached between Man City and Marseille for the loan transfer of Issa Kabore.

The defender is set to play for the Ligue 1 side until June 2023, while there is an option to buy for around €20m.

The 21-year-old right-back is already familiar with the French league, having spent last year on loan at City’s sister club Troyes. There, Kabore made 31 appearances, having moved to City from Belgian outfit KV Mechelen in 2020.

Kyle Walker has been Pep Guardiola’s first-choice right-back in Man City’s opening two matches of the new Premier League season, with youngster Rico Lewis also handed some minutes in the role. The 17-year-old was handed eight minutes in the home win over Bournemouth, having watched on from the bench in the opening win at West Ham.

Man City

Delap set for loan move

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that young forward Liam Delap will leave the club on loan this summer, as reported by City Xtra.

“We loaned ‘Macca’ [James McAtee], Liam [Delap] is in that process because we have Erling [Haaland] and Julian [Alvarez] and he needs minutes,” said Guardiola.

19-year-old James McAtee was loaned to Championship club Sheffield United earlier this summer, with the midfielder remaining on the bench for the club’s first two league matches of the season. He did, however, play over an hour in the EFL Cup first round loss to West Brom.

Delap now looks set to follow McAtee with a move to the Championship, although Premier League Southampton have reportedly shown strong interest.

Championship sides Stoke and Burnley are also reportedly on his list of suitors, with a move to the latter perhaps the most likely option given City legend Vincent Kompany is now manager of the Clarets.

FW rumour rating: 5/5

City teen star Kayky heading to Portugal

Sports Illustrated claims that Manchester City youngster Kayky is close to making a loan switch to Portuguese outfit Pacos De Ferreira.

The 19-year-old joined from Fluminense last April for a fee of around €9m, and is reportedly highly rated in and around the club. But he is set to head away from Manchester temporarily in a bid to gain some minutes and to further his progression.

The negotiations for the right winger are advanced, but no permanent clause is included as City view the teenager as a key player for the future.

Kayky made his debut for the club as a substitute for Cole Palmer in the FA Cup win over Swindon in January 2022, making his Premier League debut the following month as a substitute for Riyad Mahrez in a victory against Norwich.

Undoubtedly one for the future, Kayky would seemingly have major difficulty getting into the City starting XI this season. Fellow winger Mahrez was forced to watch from the bench as City beat West Ham on Sunday, with Jack Grealish and Phil Foden handed starting roles out wide in the Premier League opener.

Pacos De Ferreira get their Primeira Liga campaign underway later tonight with a trip to Gil Vicente.

FW rumour rating: 5/5

Potential Verratti signature to create domino effect

Marco Verratti would improve the Chelsea midfield.

Manchester City want to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, with his potential signature set to create a domino effect among three of the biggest clubs in world football, claims Sports Illustrated.

City will likely make a move for the Italian if Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong joins PSG, which in turn will see City’s Bernardo Silva make a move to Camp Nou.

Silva and De Jong have been dominating the headlines in recent weeks, with the latter’s future in particular up in the air. Both Man United and Chelsea have been strongly linked with the Duch international, but he remains a Barcelona player as the new La Liga season approaches.

Silva’s future meanwhile is also uncertain. The Portugal international still remains a key player for Pep Guardiola, but the manager remains in the dark about what is up next for his talented midfielder.

City recently strengthened in midfield through the signature of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds, having lost veteran midfielder Fernandinho after his contract expired at the end of last season.

Ilkay Gundogan is another City midfielder linked with a summer exit, but much of the focus is now on the future of Silva. Barcelona’s reported interest comes despite the club’s evident financial difficulties.

The Spanish side have already brought in several high-profile players this summer, including Bayern Munich legend Robert Lewandowski, and centre-back Jules Kounde from Sevilla. They have also delved into the Premier League through the signature of Leeds winger Raphinha.

Any decision for Silva looks set to be hugely impacted by where De Jong will be playing his football this season.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Ciy find Cucurella alternative in Gomez

Manchester City have found an alternative for Marc Cucurella in Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez, as reported by HITC.

He is reportedly also wanted by both Arsenal and Manchester United, but given the fact that both clubs have strengthened in that area this summer, it seems that City are the frontrunners for his signature.

The blue half of Manchester had been chasing Brighton star Cucurella for some time, but their pursuit of the Spanish full-back was brought to an abrupt end when he joined Premier League rivals Chelsea for £63m.

It has forced City to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements, with Pep Guardiola’s side having lost Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal earlier in the summer. Joao Cancelo started the Premier League opener against West Ham at left-back, with Guardiola noting that Nathan Ake is also capable of playing in the role.

But the manager has made no secret of his desire for a new face in the squad in that area. And he could turn to Spanish defender Gomez, who is reportedly available for as little as £12m.

The 21-year-old was ruled out of Anderlecht’s first two league matches this season through injury, but returned to play nine minutes in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over RFC Seraing.

Gomez spent the majority of his youth at Barcelona’s academy, but left the club for Borussia Dortmund in 2018 without playing a game for the first team. He also started out in Germany with Dortmund’s second side, and was quickly loaned back to Spain with Huesca, who he helped gain promotion to La Liga.

The full-back then made a permanent switch to Belgium with Anderlecht last summer, with his displays last season catching the eye of many top Premier League sides.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Barcelona must sell duo to fund Silva deal

Manchester City

Foot Mercato claims Barcelona will sell both Miralem Pjanic and Nico Gonzalez in a bid to raise funds to bring Bernardo Silva to Camp Nou.

The La Liga giants have already spent big this summer, but could delve into the market once more in the form of City star Silva. It is believed that a move for the Portugal international is not conditional on the future of fellow midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who reportedly remains an important piece of the puzzle at Barcelona.

De Jong has been the saga of the summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea seemingly interested in the Dutch midfielder. But Barcelona President Joan Laporta is reportedly keen to keep hold of the talented 25-year-old.

The futures of Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite are also uncertain, but it is Pjanic and Gonzalez that reportedly must be moved on this summer in order to fund a deal for Silva.

Silva has witnessed Kalvin Phillips join Pep Guardiola’s ranks this summer, with the Portuguese international forced to settle for a spot on the bench in the Premier League opener against West Ham on Sunday. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan are all seemingly ahead of Silva in the pecking order.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

Delap heading to Stoke on loan?

The Mirror claims that Championship outfit Stoke City want to sign Liam Delap on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old has been attracting interest from a handful of English clubs, both in the top flight and the Championship.

Premier League side Southampton had been strongly linked with the forward, but their pursuits of a permanent move were quickly swept away, with City reportedly only wanting a temporary deal.

Delap made his way through Derby County’s youth ranks before moving to Manchester in 2019, progressing through the club’s academy before his first-team debut in September 2020. Premier League and Champions League appearances have followed.

There are, of course, strong links between the Delap family and Stoke. Rory Delap, father of Liam, represented the Potters for several years throughout his career.

Chelsea to beat City to Cucurella signing?

The Mail reports that Chelsea have now entered the race to sign Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, with talks between the defender and Man City stalling.

City have long been chasing the Spaniard, but they have reportedly failed to meet his £50m asking price. The Manchester outfit are eager to replace Aleksandr Zinchenko, who recently left for Arsenal.

While Brighton are standing firm, the latest reports suggest that Chelsea may be willing to meet the asking price. They are also very eager to strengthen at left-back, with Marcos Alonso continuously linked with a switch to Barcelona.

Guardiola has recently claimed that strengthening in left-back is one of his aims this summer, but if a new face does not arrive, he remains satisfied with his current options of Joao Cancelo and Josh Wilson-Esbrand, with Nathan Ake also capable of filling the role.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

Paqueta on City’s radar

OL Olympique Lyonnais Paqueta

Man City will battle it out with Premier League rivals for the signature of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, as reported by the Mirror.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the 24-year-old, who has 33 caps for the Brazil national team. But it is now City who are in the driving seat, and are planning a £68m bid for the Lyon man. He has scored 20 goals and has 20 assists to his name for the French side.

The Brazilian can play centrally, attacking midfield or indeed out wide. Paqueta’s first taste of senior action came with Flamengo, where he spent his youth, before moving to Serie A giants AC Milan. Lyon then came calling in 2020, and he has been a regular for the Ligue 1 side ever since.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Guerreiro eyed as Cucurella alternative

Sports Illustrated claims that City have already looked for an alternative to Marc Cucurella, having given up on the Brighton man, instead turning to Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro.

The Portugal international joined the German side from Lorient in 2016, and has gone on to make almost 200 appearances. He has netted 32 goals for the club, and has chipped in with 37 assists.

City are keen to strengthen at left-back, and given Guerreiro’s ability at both ends of the pitch, it is a signing that Guardiola would undoubtedly be eager to land.

The Manchester outfit have already brought in Erling Haaland from Dortmund, with the striker possibly creating the pathway for his former teammate to join him at the Etihad.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Silva could go if right offer comes in

Man City would be willing to let go of talented midfielder Bernardo Silva if the right offer comes their way, as reported by the Mirror.

Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona, with manager Xavi reportedly a huge fan of the Portugal international. The midfielder played a crucial role for City as they lifted the Premier League title last season. He looks likely to be a central figure in midfield once again, but his future at the club is seemingly up in the air.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Silva to replace De Jong at Barcelona?

Voetbalnieuws Frankie de Jong

Sports Illustrated meanwhile claim that Barcelona will definitely make a move for Bernardo Silva, but only if they lose fellow midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong has been one of the main men of the current transfer window, with Man Utd seemingly not giving up in their pursuit of the Dutch international. He has been linked with a reunion with boss Erik ten Hag, with whom we worked during their time together at Ajax.

But Chelsea have also been linked with De Jong. If the midfielder does leave Spain this summer, then the Catalan club will reportedly turn their immediate attention to Man City’s Silva.

Barcelona have stolen many of the headlines with their transfer activity this summer, bringing in the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha from Bayern Munich and Leeds respectively. It would be foolish to rule them out of another major signing in the coming weeks.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

Juventus want Gundogan swap deal

Juventus want to swap their midfielder Arthur for Man City’s Ilkay Gundogan, according to the Mirror.

The German has somewhat fallen down the pecking order in Manchester, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, and Phil Foden all seemingly ahead of him in Pep Guardiola’s plans. Kalvin Phillips has also just joined the club, and will undoubtedly be seeking regular football for City.

Arthur is in a similar situation in Turin, with Juventus recently bringing Paul Pogba back to Italy. The French international has, however, picked up an injury in pre-season, meaning Juventus could be forced to hold on to Arthur for the time being.

Fellow midfielder Aaron Ramsey is definitely on his way out, while Adrien Rabiot has been linked with an exit, so Juventus could take advantage of Gundogan’s contract situation and bring him to Serie A this summer.

July's Man City Transfer Rumours

Arsenal warn City off Saka

Manchester City

Arsenal have warned Manchester City off young attacker Bukayo Saka by offering him a new long-term deal that would double his salary, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The deal would be worth at least double his current £70,000-a-week wages. The 20-year-old has two years left on his current deal, but it is believed that he is desperate to play Champions League football.

City have strengthened in the centre of attack through Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, but have been weakened out wide through the loss of Raheem Sterling to Chelsea. Pep Guardiola is, therefore, reportedly keen to fill this gap as soon as possible through the signing of Saka.

The versatile youngster is capable of operating out wide or centrally, much like many of City’s current squad. Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden have all adopted similar roles under Guardiola.

Arsenal and Man City have not always seen eye-to-eye over the years, but their relationship has seemingly turned friendly since Mikel Arteta left his coaching role at the Manchester outfit to become manager of Arsenal. City have since sold both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Gunners.

Saka remains a key player for the north London side, scoring in the club’s recent 4-0 hammering of fellow Premier League club Chelsea.

Brighton laugh off £30m Cucurella bid

Brighton have labelled Manchester City’s £30m bid for left-back Marc Cucurella as ‘laughable’ and are holding firm for their £50m evaluation to be met, as per The Athletic.

The two Premier League clubs reportedly share a friendly relationship at board level, but those in the higher echelons at Brighton say it is highly unlikely that the asking price will be met for their Spanish defender.

Talks remain ongoing for the 24-year-old, who joined the Seagulls from Getafe for £15m last August. He joined the club on a five-year deal. Cucurella started Brighton’s recent pre-season friendly against Reading.

It is understood that the Seagulls are approaching the deal in the same manner that they approached Arsenal’s move for Ben White last summer. The Gunners had multiple unsuccessful bids for the centre-back before landing him for a figure of £50m.

City are undoubtedly in the market for a left-back after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal earlier this month. Cucurella enjoyed a super season for the Seagulls last time out, catching the eye of City boss Guardiola with his standout displays at both ends of the pitch.

Neymar plays down City links

Manchester City

The Daily Mail says that PSG star Neymar has insisted he wants to stay with the Ligue 1 club, amid reported summer interest from Man City. Chelsea have also been linked with the iconic Brazilian.

Neymar continues to represent the Paris outfit, and has stated that his only wish is to remain at the club for the upcoming campaign. His time in PSG has, however, been disrupted by injury, with the winger limited to 22 league appearances last time out.

One promising sign, however, for any club willing to pursue the attacker is the fact that new PSG boss Christophe Galtier has typically preferred a two-man attack, as shown during his recent tenure with Lille.

In a star-studded squad comprising Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, Neymar could be the one missing out. The Brazilian will want to play as much football as possible ahead of the 2022 World Cup, and may therefore be forced into a change at club level to make that happen.

Southampton’s £16m Delap bid rejected

The Athletic claims that Man City have rejected a £16m bid from Southampton for striker Liam Delap. The forward, who is the son of former Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap, signed a new three-year contract with the Manchester club last year.

But he is attracting loan interest from multiple Championship sides, as well as a permanent offer from Premier League side Southampton. City have, however, reportedly made it clear that a permanent move is not an option for the 19-year-old.

Delap was a member of Derby County’s youth ranks before his switch to Manchester in 2019, where he progressed through the club’s academy before a first-team debut in a League Cup match against Bournemouth in September 2020. A first Premier League appearance followed shortly after against Leicester.

He then got his first taste of Champions League action earlier this year in the victory over Sporting Lisbon, and is now currently part of the club’s pre-season tour squad of the United States.

The Saints are reportedly eager to bolster their attacking options, and are currently closing in on the signature of Bordeaux forward Sekou Mara, having already signed midfielder Joe Aribo from Rangers.

Both Romeo Lavia and Gavin Bazunu meanwhile have joined Southampton from City this summer, for reported fees of £15m and £14m respectively.

Sosa lined up if Cucurella falls through

Manchester City

According to Bild, City have identified VfB Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa as a potential new recruit at left-back, should they fail to land Brighton’s Marc Cucurella.

Sosa is, however, also reportedly a target for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Leeds, as well as La Liga side Barcelona. The Croatian could be sold for a figure of £20m, with the German club keen to bring in much-needed funds after just about managing to escape relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

Stuttgart managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the campaign, but their full-back is now reportedly ready to test himself at a higher level.

Guardiola is desperate to strengthen at left-back after the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, and 24-year-old Sosa is one of the names on his list.

Portugal international Joao Cancelo has starred at the left-hand side of City’s defence in recent times, but it looks increasingly likely that the manager wants him on his natural right-hand side. Cucurella, of course, remains the number one target this summer.

Zinchenko out, Cucurella in

According to Fabrizio Romano, it could be one left-back in and one out for Pep Guardiola. Current full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is closing in on a move to Arsenal, while Manchester City want to replace him with Brighton’s Marc Cucurella.

A £30m deal has reportedly been agreed for the Ukrainian left-back, with his salary the only part of the transfer remaining. He joined the Manchester side in 2016 from Russian outfit Ufa, and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.

Despite his versatility – where he can operate at left-back or in centre-midfield, he has struggled to find regular first-team football in recent years, playing second fiddle behind the likes of Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker at full-back.

Guardiola is happy for the player to be moved on, particularly given the fact that he has a ready-made replacement lined up in Brighton’s Cucurella. The Spaniard, who moved to the Seagulls from Getafe last summer, hugely impressed in his debut season in England.

The 23-year-old progressed through the ranks at Barcelona before his move to the south coast, but could now become a Man City player in time for the new campaign.

Talks held for Bellingham

Manchester City

Man City have held talks with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, as reported by Sports Illustrated. The Manchester outfit are, however, seemingly in a battle with both Liverpool and Real Madrid for his signature.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have reportedly long been interested in the former Birmingham man, who has shone in the Bundesliga since making the switch to Germany in July 2020. Just a few months later, the midfielder was called up to the England national team, and has remained a key member of Gareth Southgate’s squad since.

Whether or not City will chase another midfielder so soon after landing Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the Manchester outfit are not to be messed with when there is a top talent available in the market.

Bellingham’s former teammate Erling Haaland recently made a high-profile move from Dortmund to the Etihad, so it would be foolish to rule any move out at this stage. The two would undoubtedly form another deadly partnership, having linked up expertly while the Norwegian was still lining out for the Bundesliga side.

City to benefit from potential Harrison move

Manchester City

Former City winger Jack Harrison could give the club another reason to smile this summer, with the Manchester outfit set to gain a small percentage should he make a switch to Newcastle.

As per the Manchester Evening News, City installed a 20% sell-on clause in the deal that saw the winger move permanently to Leeds last summer. The latest reports suggest that the Magpies are now strongly interested in bringing him to St James’ Park.

Harrison has been a key member of the setup at Elland Road for the last four years, but the new riches of Newcastle may just persuade him to jump ship this summer, which would, of course, be an added bonus in City’s busy transfer window.

Guardiola to tempt Saka to City?

Guardiola is exploring the option of bringing Arsenal star Bukayo Saka to the Etihad, according to the Mirror. The winger is currently aiming to settle his long-term future amid reported a stall in contract discussions in north London.

The 20-year-old is now in the final two years of his contract with the Gunners, and while manager Mikel Arteta is confident of extending the deal, Guardiola may just have one eye on a sensational swoop for the talented youngster.

The potential interest comes as the Spaniard looks to bolster his attacking options once more after the exit of Raheem Sterling, who has joined Premier League rivals Chelsea. City are never too slow to find the perfect replacement for players exiting the club.

Despite his age, Saka was one of Arsenal’s leading performers last season, and has also shone for England when given the chance on the international stage. He boasts 23 goals and 29 assists in 131 games for his current club.

The young winger has enjoyed a rapid rise to Premier League stardom, and would undoubtedly be a hit at the Etihad thanks to Guardiola’s free-flowing, attacking football. But Arsenal will do all in their power to keep their star man at the club.

Juventus eyeing £21m Gundogan

Manchester City

Calcio Mercato Web claims that Juventus are planning an immediate move for City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. The German’s deal at the Etihad will expire next summer, but the Serie A side don’t want to risk missing out, so will launch a bid this summer.

The Italian outfit could aim for a deal in the region of £21m as they continue their rebuild, with Gundogan’s old rival Paul Pogba recently joining from Manchester United. Man City may well just be thinking about cashing in on the former Borussia Dortmund man this summer.

Current Juventus midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Arthur Melo have both been heavily linked with exits, and so their potential moves would provide both finances and squad space for the Man City midfielder.

Gundogan has been with the Manchester outfit since 2016, and was the club’s first signing of the Guardiola era. After a knee injury in his first campaign that kept him out of action for several months, he has starred for the club in every season since.

The 31-year-old has been pivotal for the Premier League outfit at both ends of the pitch, putting in tireless shifts that have involved many important tackles and dribbles, along with several superbly taken goals.

But the arrival of Kalvin Phillips may just have the German thinking about his future in England. His playing time could be severely hampered by the midfielder’s move from Leeds, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Rodri and Bernardo Silva, of course, all still vying for starting roles.

Manchester City Transfers

David Silva from Valencia for £25m in 2010

Without much doubt, David Silva was the most important signing of the new Manchester City era. The Spanish midfielder came to the club for a modest fee compared to other City transfers at the time and he spent 10 seasons at the club, winning 4 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups and 5 League Cups with the team.

Kevin De Bruyne from Vfl Wolfsburg for £55m in 2015

At the time of the transfer, Manchester City’s acquisition of Kevin De Bruyne for £55 million was the second most expensive transfer in English football. However, unlike many other expensive fees that City paid, De Bruyne proved to be a brilliant signing. The Belgian winger is still with the club and very much a crucial piece in the team.

Sergio Agüero from Atlético Madrid for £36m in 2011

The Argentinian striker was already a household name after his successful stint in Madrid and signing him was a clear signal of City’s ambitions. Sergio “Kun” Agüero is still with the club and during his 9 years in Manchester he scored 180 league goals.

Yaya Toure from Barcelona for £24m in 2010

Greeted by his older brother Kolo who arrived at the club a year prior from Arsenal, Yaya Touré quickly established his place in the team. In his eight years at the club, the midfielder from Ivory Coast scored many important goals and instilled a winning culture at Manchester City.

Vincent Kompany from Hamburger SV for £8 in 2008

One of the first City signings after the 2008 takeover by Abu Dhabi United Group, Vincent Kompany was bought for a rather modest fee of around £8 million. The Belgian defender became an indispensable part of the club’s defence and he ended up wearing the captain’s armband during his 11 successful years with the Citizens.
