Derby County is an all-around pretty average English football club. Most of the United Kingdom teams have had at least one short period during which they rose to prominence. For the Rams, this time was in the '70s when they were crowned English Champions on two occasions in 1972 and 1975. In the latter of the two years, they also won the FA Community Shield.
The club has since played the majority of its games in the Championship, the second tier of English football. Under Frank Lampard was the Rams' latest chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League. In his first season as manager, the ex-Chelsea star ranked the team in the 6th place, thus taking part in the promotion play-off. County even managed to reach the finals only to be beaten by Aston Villa with a score of 2-1.
