Toby Alderweireld is a Belgian defender, born on 2nd March 1989, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur. Alderweireld joined Ajax in 2004, making his first team debut for the club in January 2009. He became first choice alongside Jan Vertonghen during the 2009-10 season and developed significantly as a footballer over the following seasons with the Dutch club. In September 2013, the Belgian joined Atletico Madrid but struggled to hold down a regular place as the club won La Liga. As a result, he was loaned to Southampton for the following campaign. An excellent season with the Saints saw interest from across Europe for the defender and he joined Tottenham in summer 2015. Alderweireld made his senior international debut in 2009.
