Thiago Almada is a professional footballer from Argentina who plays as a midfielder or winger for Velez Sarsfield. Almada was born on April 26th, 2001 in El Fuerte Apache, in the poor suburbs of Buenos Aires. He is regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation in the world.
Almada started his career at his current club, Velez. The Argentinian wunderkind has spent his entire career with the club, starting with the youth ranks before he was moved to the senior team. He made his debut for the first team in 2018 and has since played in 43 games for Velez, scoring 9 goals in the process.
The youngster is described as the next Carlos Tevez, his football idol. He is full of skill and has plenty of attitude. Although he can play both as a winger and a midfielder, it seems that the role of a classic No 10 suits him the most since he always wants to have the ball at his feet. Some also say that he reminds them of Pablo Aimar, both in stature and skill.
Thiago is still waiting on his first call-up to the Argentinian senior national team but he already made his debut for the youth ranks. So far, he appeared in seven games for the Argentina Under-20 squad and his debut for the first team seems imminent.
Thiago Almada Transfers and Rumours
While Almada is still with Velez, the only club he ever played with since he was a little boy, this is bound to change sooner rather than later. The interest from many big clubs is huge and continues to rise – although some of this may be just gossip, the love for the Argentinian youngster is not a secret.
One of the first teams to try and sign Almada away from Velez was the Argentinian rival Boca Juniors. However, it seems more likely that a move to Europe is the next stepping stone for Almada. At this point, it is almost certain that he will make transfer news in the upcoming winter transfer window, or at the very latest in the summer of 2021.
The midfielder currently has a market value of about £16 million but the club has already received and rejected offers in a similar range. However, Almada is still slated to sign a contract renewal since his current one expires in six months. If he doesn’t sign a new contract, his value in the upcoming transfer window could be lower.
The most interested of the European giants at the moment are the Red Devils. In addition to Manchester United, Almada also drew interest from Leeds United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, and a few other clubs.
It remains to be seen whether Almada ends up in the Premier League or La Liga, but the latest reports say that Manchester United is very close to agreement on his transfer fee. If Velez decides to sell Almada this winter, we are most likely to see him at Old Trafford.
