Sadio Mane is a professional football player who plays for Liverpool. The well-known winger was born on 10th of April, 1992 in Sedhiou, a small town in Senegal. Mane started his football career in a football academy called the Academie Generation Foot and he was at the academy through all his formative years.

His career really took off once he left the Senegalese academy and moved to Europe as a 19-year old. Spotted by the scouts of the French football club Metz, he joined them in 2011 but didn’t make his debut for the team before early 2012. He only played 22 games for the club before he moved to Austria, to Red Bull Salzburg.

He spent two years with Red Bull and won the Austrian League in the process before moving on to achieve his dream and play in Premier League. He joined Southampton in 2014 and quickly gained the status of a key player. After two years at Southampton, he finally got to Liverpool where he still plays today.

During his time at Anfield, he won Champions League with the team and the long-awaited Premier League title in 2020. He was part of the PFA Team of the Year on three occasions, won the PL Golden Boot in 2019 and, the same year, he was crowned as the African Player of the Year.

Mane plays for Senegal national team and he was a part of the team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He was also one of the key players in Senegal’s 2019 African Cup of Nations campaign, leading his team to the final where they lost to Algeria. Despite the loss, Mane was named in the team of the tournament.

Sadio Mane Transfers and Rumours

  • 2011: Generation Foot Academy to Metz – Free Transfer
  • 2012: Metz to Red Bull Salzburg – £3.6 million
  • 2014: Red Bull Salzburg to Southampton – £6.75 million
  • 2016: Southampton to Liverpool – £37 million

After arriving at Metz and spending a year with the club, Mane became one of the main transfer targets of Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg. Their interest came to fruition after they spent £3.6 million on an unproven 20-year old, a move that paid off for the Austrian team.

Mane spent two seasons with the club and won the league with Salzburg before moving to Southampton for a fee of £6.75 million. Once again, Southampton proved adept at finding gems all over Europe and Mane’s transfer odds were growing rapidly after two years with the team.

According to various football whispers and transfer rumours, the Senegalese winger was wanted merchandise. In fact, it is more than gossip that Manchester United wanted Mane in 2016 but the Senegalese eventually turned them down for Liverpool.

This turned out to be a smart move since Mane won both the league and the Champions League with the Reds and spurred interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. At the moment, the winger seems happy at Anfield but he could make transfer news again if he decides to join one of the two Spanish teams.
