Ryan Bertrand is an England international defender who plays for Southampton. Born on 5th August 1989, the attacking left full-back joined Gillingham aged nine before Chelsea signed his as a 16-year-old for £125,000. He made his professional debut in November 2006 in League One with Bournemouth and has completed other loan moves to Oldham Athletic, Norwich City, Reading, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Southampton. He returned to Stamford Bridge during 2010/11, making his Premier League debut in April 2011 against Birmingham City. The following season marked the breakthrough for Bertrand as he featured in the Blues’ run to FA Cup success, however, the highlight of his career to date was being named in the starting XI for the 2012 UEFA Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich. He joined Southampton for the 2014/15 campaign before making the St Mary’s move permanent for £10m in February 2015 – where he was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. Bertrand was in the Team GB team at the 2012 London Olympic Games and made his England debut in August 2012 – representing England at UEFA Euro 2016.
