Rekeem Jordan Harper is a professional football player from England. He was born on March 8th, 2000 in Birmingham and he plays for the Premier Club West Bromwich Albion. Harper plays as a midfielder and is one of the most talented English players in his generation.
The midfielder spent his entire career at West Bromwich Albion. He started playing football at the club’s youth academy when he was only 12 years old. His vision and control of the ball were ahead of his peers and it was evident that the club had a nice talent on their hands.
Rekeem made his first-team debut in 2017, at which time he became the only Premier League player who was born in the 2000s. He soon signed his first professional contract with the club and was promptly sent to Blackburn Rovers on a loan to gain more first-team experience. His first senior goal came in 2019 against Rotherham United – still his only league goal for WBA to this day.
During the two years in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion, Harper appeared in 26 league games. He only played in one Premier League game since WBA came back to the Premier League but he is still one of the most promising youngsters in the club.
Harper also played for different English youth teams. In total, he collected 10 appearances in Under-17 and Under-19 national teams but he is still waiting for his debut in the senior national team.
Rekeem Harper Transfers and Rumours
Harper is one of the rare players who never changed clubs in his career. Even though he is only 20 years old, it is still a rarity to see a player remain at the club at which he started his youth career. This means that Harper has spent 8 years already with West Bromwich Albion.
However, despite his obvious talent, Rekeem is still not in the first-team plans at The Hawthorns. Due to this, he is a constant part of football gossip and rumours, especially when it comes to transfers and loans. He was only loaned out once in his career, which seems a bit odd since he hardly got a chance to play at WBA.
In any case, he is still interesting to many clubs despite his general lack of playing time. The most engaged were Scottish titans Rangers and Celtic. While both clubs wanted to get Harper on loan, Celtic also had a transfer in mind at some point. However, Harper never made transfer news and remained at West Bromwich Albion.
Harper probably looks at his current situation with a bit of disappointment. We suspect that the youngster will soon be on the move if he doesn’t get more chances in the Premier League. Whether he will go on loan to Scotland or maybe transfer to some other club, it remains to be seen. His current market value is around £2 million, which is not too much for a 20-year old. This is another reason why a move in the near future is very likely for Rekeem Harper.
